We are thrilled to announce the 2020 (and final round of) grantees for the Gucci Tribeca Documentary Fund! This year, 11 projects are receiving a total of $140,000 in funding, and the majority of the projects are directed by women. These projects include stories from the coalfields in Appalachia, death row in Texas, Islamic State members detained in Syria, and Black mothers on the frontlines of the fight against racist police violence in the U.S.
Since 2008, the Gucci-funded program has provided production and finishing finances to feature-length documentary films highlighting critical domestic & international social issues.
Please join us in congratulating our impressive 2020 grantees! And thank you, as always, to @gucciequilibrium for supporting these remarkable storytellers.

#TFINetwork prep week kicked off today!
For the next 3 days, 43 filmmaking teams will attend a series of virtual events to hone their pitching skills and gain industry insight. Next week, they’ll meet with over 100 industry professionals to pitch their scripted, documentary, and interactive projects.
We started the day with a keynote speech from @jfreewright, who urged filmmakers to, “Lead us to your visions of a more ideal world and we will follow.”
We ended the day with a panel discussion with @elegancebratton, @jessicadevaney, and @kishori_rajan. Kishori offered the advice, “The spotlight on you is always for a brief moment of time. Never take it for granted. You should always be prepared.”

Kudos to the winners of our 2020/ IF Then Shorts American Midwest pitch, James Christenson and Brennan Vance! Their short doc TO BE RECONCILED, which follows a Minnesota man’s fight against the relentless threat of deportation, will receive a $25,000 production grant from TFI and @clefilmfest and a post finishing package from Bruton/Stroube.
Our jurors Mridu Chandra, Chloe Gbai, Lucas Harger, and Sheila Nevins said, "Aside from delivering a near-perfect pitch, the story… belongs to director James Christenson. The story is in his heart… and that came through. We're confident that this team will make the right decisions for this film."

Later this month, emerging creatives and seasoned professionals alike will virtually meet with hundreds of industry members to pitch their projects.
We’re thankful our programs team worked tirelessly to reimagine an event that is so crucial to independent filmmakers. Even though these are extraordinary circumstances, our staff will continue to provide artists with the tools they need to elevate their projects.
Check the link in our bio for more information about these talented filmmaking teams—and how our biggest industry market yet will be hosted digitally.
