For the next 4 years, Nature and Culture in Ecuador will be working with Indigenous communities and local governments to establish a Provincial Protected Area - an estimated 747,000 hectares - in Ecuador’s Orellana province. Here we are on day 17 of our advent calendar, and today we are spotlighting the keel-billed toucan. 🎅 With its iconic rainbow beak and striking feathers, it is one of the most vibrant birds in the tropical world. 🦜🌈 Found in the lush rainforests of Central and South America, this beautiful bird has a beak that can stretch up to 7.5 inches long. The toucan uses it to grab fruit, defend its territory, and even cool down in the heat.
