Please enjoy some BTS from WILL & HARPER (also, it’s been shortlisted for the Oscars!) Some peeps have asked about our setups, so here y’go - Devon operated steadi w/ Alexa Mini / Panchros I operated easyrig w/ C300 / Cooke 20-100 Varotal When we were driving, we had 2 Komodos rigged to the hood of the wagoneer - one hard-mounted (with a vibration isolator) in a wide 2-shot, and the other just beside it on a Ronin to create panning singles (operated from our follow van). It wasn’t perfect, but it was fast to rig and derig, which we did numerous times each day depending on where we were landing to shoot off the road or if weather changed our driving plans. No towing or process trailer, just Will & Harper driving. We were usually leading them in our van, since we didn’t want to see ourselves in their background. We had patchy video signal, and shaky audio transmitting to a tiny speaker, but it was enough for us to make it work and to hear them and laugh along for the 17 days. Scenery was shot either from my front seat on the Cooke zoom on a hi hat strapped in front of me, or occasionally we rigged a black arm with the Ronin and got a few cleaner sweeps of the car on the road. =)

Been meaning to post more about WILL & HARPER. It’s been so gratifying seeing the film out in the world reaching audiences and at such a critical time. We were a small jolly crew and going on this journey together was one of the sweetest experiences of my career. Intimate and joyful ✨ Massive shout-out to Devon Catucci, who brought his signature grace and sensitivity to his operating on steadi, and who masterminded so much of the logistics of shooting in and out of cars and hotels for 3 weeks on the road, with very little prep! HOLD YOUR BREATH is streaming on Hulu!! Directed by Karrie Crouse and Will Joines, who I’ve known for 20 years since we went through film school together. It was an absolute full circle experience and such a pleasure to help realize their artistic and singular vision. I’m so grateful for all the teamwork and collaboration that went into this tough shoot. Big shoutouts to all the support and hard work from our core camera team - Tim, Twojay, Karla, Chip, Meghan, Royce, Zack and Jordan. Trevor, Avery, Jeremiah, Benito, Tim and Ezra in our grip team. WILL & HARPER is screening at TIFF next week, and releasing on Netflix September 27! it was such a special time crossing the country making this film with a wonderful group of people. can’t wait for the world to come on the journey ✨
