The film was directed by the God among men, Tony Scott and lensed by Paul Cameron, who previously collaborated on the BMW short film Beat the Devil (2002). They would later collaborate on the underrated classic Déjà Vu (2006). Denzel Washington’s character is based on a real CIA operative of the same name who went on to become a mercenary.  Christopher Walken ruined so many takes do to a chewing gum habit at the time that the producers had to get PAs to sneak into his trailer to steal his stash.
