When I first moved to New York in the early 2000s, the romance of the city was something of a mirage to me. In fact it felt indifferent, even cruel. Online dating was beginning to seep into the cultural consciousness. There was no swiping right or left yet. We were still finding our way through dimly lit bars and stumbling into chance encounters. But New York has always thrived on the mythology of randomness, on the idea that anything can happen. You hear it in every story—how they met at a magazine stand, how they locked eyes on the L train, how they happened to be at the same party in some illegal Bushwick loft. In New York, it’s not about fate. It’s about luck. And everyone’s waiting for their lucky strike. A few months ago, one idea turned into another, and we paid homage to this belief in a record number of hours, with a lot of love and a lot of laughs on the Lower East Side. Thank you to everyone who helped make this possible and for sharing in that faith that something extraordinary is always around the corner. Thanks to all the people who helped make this work possible including @nanlite_global who have amazing continuous lights.
