I wanted to tell you about my cousin Kurt as he recently left this world - but I don’t know where to begin. I think he’d be happy if I told you how he rode his motorcycle from coast to coast in 40hrs and 50minutes (and how I didn’t round up and tell you it was 41 hours for ease in story telling.) And how in this first pic he had just finished the Hoka Hey challenge of 9800 miles with no GPS or maps - just roll charts - in 11 days. His favorite bike was “Old Purple” which he logged over 200k miles on. The church allowed it in the foyer for his funeral. He probably wouldn’t have mentioned it but he got his 40 year AA chip this year and at the funeral we learned how many people he had helped through their own recovery. He loved farming and was a dedicated champion of topsoil preservation techniques (ahead of his time.) He was about to be a first time grandad. He would have been really good at grandad-ing, too. He might be ok with me telling you he died on his final leg of riding the entirety of North and South America - but his passing wasn’t because of a moto accident. Thankfully. And he was a big fan of cookies. Especially his mom’s. ❤️ Kurt was so good at being Kurt. His big heart and unbridled joy at living will live on. ❤️
