Postcards from the Alps: 12 days, 30+ passes, hundreds of hairpin turns, new riding friends and sights that have left me speechless. It’s hard to hold this much goodness and gratitude! My heartfelt thanks to Henning, Ron and each of my new friends for being part of this trip - I couldn’t have done this without you guys. It was a 10+ in my book and better than I could have imagined. My cousin Kurt has given me a gift beyond measure. 💜🏍

A lot of you know this - that this time last year I received a letter saying my cousin Kurt had established a travel fund as part of his will. And that I was a recipient. (Me and 99 other people! I still love telling this story!) I had one year to take a trip - with the hope that I would pick a trip that stretched what I thought I was capable of. After multiple failed attempts at trips I thought I wanted to take, this one landed. I’ve imagined stopping by Kurt’s farm to tell him about this trip. Even though he was an infinitely more accomplished motorcycle rider than me, I’m pretty sure he’d make a big deal of this just so I could feel good about it. My gratitude for this opportunity, for Kurt, and for all of you that have cheered me on is bigger than I know what to do with. 💜💜💜

Prague, you won me over. Berlin, your Ritter Sport game was stunning. Amsterdam, you win by default being that I got so much time with my fave residents of your fair city. Fortunately I made it through airport security with the 10# clay cat bust that Emma made for me. 😻 And Oliebollen stand, let me know when I need to submit my application by in time to work there next year. I’m positive I can get my powdered sugar sprinkle game tightened up in time. ❤️❤️❤️

I wanted to tell you about my cousin Kurt as he recently left this world - but I don’t know where to begin. I think he’d be happy if I told you how he rode his motorcycle from coast to coast in 40hrs and 50minutes (and how I didn’t round up and tell you it was 41 hours for ease in story telling.) And how in this first pic he had just finished the Hoka Hey challenge of 9800 miles with no GPS or maps - just roll charts - in 11 days. His favorite bike was “Old Purple” which he logged over 200k miles on. The church allowed it in the foyer for his funeral. He probably wouldn’t have mentioned it but he got his 40 year AA chip this year and at the funeral we learned how many people he had helped through their own recovery. He loved farming and was a dedicated champion of topsoil preservation techniques (ahead of his time.) He was about to be a first time grandad. He would have been really good at grandad-ing, too. He might be ok with me telling you he died on his final leg of riding the entirety of North and South America - but his passing wasn’t because of a moto accident. Thankfully. And he was a big fan of cookies. Especially his mom’s. ❤️ Kurt was so good at being Kurt. His big heart and unbridled joy at living will live on. ❤️
