I've never been the most tech savvy, but I took a course in virtual production this year to learn some new skills. It was one of the more challenging and frustrating undertakings I've had in a while, but after months of pulling my hair out, something clicked, and I'm really proud to have created this little short teaser for a much bigger story idea.
I learned to build the setting, animate the characters, place the lights, place and coordinate the cameras - I know all of this is great practice for live-action filmmaking too because it helped me think bigger and test out a zillion shot setups. Highly recommend for pre-vis for any project - the software is
@unitytechnologies and it's free.
I love high-concept genres - fantasy, adventure, sci-fi, period pieces - which can be tough to achieve on an indie budget. In animation, no story is too large to tell. The sky's the limit!
Stills from "Hellrider" - a new short written and directed by me.
