We stayed out with gitano flamenco artists in Madrid til 5 in the morning so you don’t have to.
You may recognize percussionist
@jmtobalo his from performances with world class acts like
@Rosalia.vt. and while the stage is where the actions at, the true spectacle of the gitano community happens backstage.
Our Madrid contributor
@catnixx took us backstage to
@tablaolaquimera, one of Madrid’s most respected flamenco establishments. Musicians, singers, and dancers gathered backstage in “La cueva” or “the cave” before their midnight show offering hugs, rolling cigarettes, and breaking out in serindipitous jam sessions. The love, support, and respect was palpable in La cueva.
The older members mentored the younger ones, asking about their families, recent gigs, and their future. Most traveled from outside of Madrid, but distance couldn’t separate their bond.
Thank you for letting us into your inner circle and offering us the chance to capture your love.
Special thanks to
@elmontyoficial for hosting us at
@tablaolaquimera and to all the musicians, primos, tias, y tios for inviting us into La cueva with you.
