Meet Miss Havisham! @fkachristianlacroix’s couture shows always concluded with a spectacular bridal gown, a tribute to Miss Havisham, his beloved character from Charles Dickens’ 1861 novel, ‘Great Expectations’.⁠ ⁠ The wealthy spinster, left at the altar, became a metaphor for the fading desirability of aging women as she remained in her decaying mansion, wearing her wedding dress.⁠ ⁠ In this installation, Lacroix and hairstylist @cyndiaharvey challenge the persistent associations between age, shame, and diminishing beauty. Here, Miss Havisham is dressed in a Christian Lacroix Spring-Summer 2004 couture silhouette.⁠ ⁠ Representing aging hair as inner strength, Cyndia Harvey’s wig symbolizes how self-confidence only grows with age.⁠ ⁠ The installation by Christian Lacroix and Cyndia Harvey is on view in ‘Masquerade, Make-up & Ensor’ at @momuantwerp through 2 February 2025.
