This was a two part project exploring western and south Asian menstruation rituals and female empowerment, or shall I say lack there of within my culture.
Part 1 depicts the use of a speculative ceremonious instrument to direct the bleeding towards the ground, whilst also building a feeling of pain through the journey.
.
The title was inspired by words taken from the 2018 remake of Suspiria: “She’s what I smeared on the world”.
.
Are we all smears on this world or can we be more?

Part 1:
These extracts are from the film created through granular synthesis of clips and coded audio, inspired by papers read discussing historical rituals of free bleeding amongst western religious grounds.
