This work has no front or back, and there’s no hierarchy between the two sides. In ‘Dear Sides’, Katja Mater works with so-called half-palindromes: right to left, forming different words or phrases in each directions. These are projected onto a transparent screen, so that the projection is equally visible on both sides. Mater exposes the mechanisms of photography, film, and language. And she reveals how the same image can be perceived and understood in different ways depending on our position in the space.
