The New School, in collaboration with the Village Preservation (@gvshp_nyc), is honoring the renowned Harlem-born writer and civil rights activist James Baldwin. Featuring a passage from Baldwin’s book Nothing Personal, the installation encourages passersby to reflect on the writer’s legacy, impact on American culture, and powerful depictions of the struggles, aspirations, and hopes of the silenced and unheard. Centennial celebrations for James Baldwin are happening across New York City, including JIMMY! God’s Black Revolutionary Mouth at the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture (@schomburgcenter). At the Schomburg Center, selections from the James Baldwin Papers that highlight his literary career and legacy from childhood to death, along with items from other research collections, are on display through February 28.
