three weeks ago, i was flying on a teeny tiny airplane from my hometown of cincinnati, ohio to new york city. there was a gentleman seated in the row in front of me and i overheard him tell his seat mates, “i was in one of the towers that day. it’s rare to meet someone who survived being in those towers. but i did.” how very right he was, i thought. i realized that i had never heard someone share an anecdote like his. rare indeed, and how heavy it felt. it reminded me of that day, twenty three years ago, when my roommates and i watched the towers burn and then fall while standing, so young and scared, from our NYU dorm room balcony on 14th street at 3rd avenue. we didn’t know what to do. we didn’t know where to go. we thought maybe we should go to the hospitals and donate blood for survivors. but there was no need, we soon learned. there were so few survivors. and yet here was one, right in front of me, just three weeks ago. sipping on a drink while sharing his story. on an airplane, on a clear sunny morning, to new york city of all places. after we landed, i went to my apartment and, as an escape, spent hours and hours snuggling with my kittens under blankets while watching episodes of sex and the city i had already seen countless times, over and over and in no particular order. home, i felt. and then, there it was. this singular episode. you know the one, you know the name, it ends with a 9/11 dedication to this beautiful city that makes me cry every time i see it on the screen. it’s a love note to new york, always and forever. i love you new york, always and forever ✨💌✨ #iheartny

one year ago today ✨🐾🤍🩶🤍🐾✨ for years and years and years, i dreamed of a little grey kitten named waffles ✨💞🧇🐾🧇💞✨ little did i know that the universe had a plan: less than two weeks after i adopted baby girl coco, her incredible foster mama michelle texted me a photo with the words “this little boy was found crying alone under a car.” the photo, it was of a teeny, tiny, adorable, floopy, snuggly little kitten who i spent two [almost three?!] weeks too long inquiring about bringing home even though the moment i saw the photo, i ✨knew✨ he was my waffles. i didn’t have any set plan to adopt a kitten, let alone two, within the span of a month and four days last summer. [thank you for your insistent kitten frenship advice @rebeccadalynyc, i am forever grateful to you for changing my life ✨💞🐾💞✨] waffley is such a little snuggle bunny. his eyes, his tail, his kisses, his stripes, his socks [!], his heart, his soul. how could a girl be so lucky ✨🥹✨ thank you waffles…for finding me, for trusting me, for loving me, for being with me. for gently batting my face every morning with your softest-ever paws so that we can cuddle in bed. i love you forever, my little sweetheart love ✨💌✨ @cocotacoglittersandwaffles [and a very eternal thank you to the team, especially dear rae, @prospectparkanimalclinic for taking the best care of waffles and my baby girl coco ✨🎈🐾🎈✨]

one year ago today, i brought my itty bitty baby girl coco taco glitters home [see the last slide for our ride home ✨💓🥹💓✨]. i feel so lucky that she trusted me with her sweet, adorable, funny, fuzzy, big-eyed, butterfly-eared little self. it took me a while to sort out what to name her [naming someone is a big responsibility!] and i wanted hers to be magical. as she and i bonded, i fell in love with her fur [which reminded me of coconuts], noticed that her happy cozy spot was on a cashmere chanel blanket [yay for a connection to and excellent taste in fashion], remembered that i always loved the name taco [have you seen the league? taco forever! also also tacos are one of my favorite snacks] and knew that glitters had to be a part of her name [of course] ✨ and so, coco taco glitters she came to be ✨💞🌈🥥🎀🌮🐾🌮🎀🥥💞✨ thank you to michelle, rae and the entire loving team @prospectparkanimalclinic for saving her life. in turn, all of you selflessly made mine sparklier, snugglier and full of endless joy and love. if her tiny angel sister was still with us, i would have adopted her too ✨💞🌈🪽🐾🪽🌈💞✨
