I recently discovered ‘Deep Into Jungle Territory’, a compilation of jungle and bhangra music from the mid 90s. This feels extremely british to me as someone who grew up in birmingham 😂 big up oriental star agencies, brum foundations of british asian music✊🏽 I’m also returning to play more Indian dj remixes from the sound system scene. There was two systems in particular that I ended up searching for cause of the tunes they were playing. Not sure whether the songs are produced by people involved with the system but i did find a few that were on these videos. You also have many vloggers who follow these systems like @provat_mondal_ Swipe for clips of Subhadip, Power Music and some others - with a warning for you ears 😬 This style that sounded so much like dubstep to me seems to be referred to as ‘humming bass’ in reference to the huge subs used on the tracks. There are many variations on this style including ‘Power Bass’ and ‘1 Step’. I’m yet to decode it all… but big up these man cause the parties look like they are putting us to shame 😂

some clips from the latest show on @sistermidnightfm focused on the indian sounds in this one. sometime last year i stumbled on the videos of indian sound system dj competitions and had my mind blown. the way they were setting up systems and throwing parties just looked absolutely nuts. most of the music in these videos was edm type stuff but after a few days in the rabbit hole i found a video of one system playing what sounded like dubstep. after this i went on a mad hunt to find the track and ended up discovering a little archive of the mp3s online. this particular style of dj remixes from india is heavily orientated around the powerful sub bass and repetitive drum patterns. id never heard this stuff before or known about anyone playing it over here so i wanted to blend some of these in with the uk sounds 🙏🏽 clips of the indian dj remixes from slide 4 👌🏽✌🏽 featuring some random photos i took when i went over there in 2020 go check the full mix on the @sistermidnightfm soundcloud
