Named after the stinging cells of jellyfish and other cnidarians, the Los Angeles-based duo’s collaboration is an excavation of a potent force of aliveness, a venomous injection of love and freedom. NEMATOCYST has toured throughout Asia earlier this year and is invested in conjuring individual transformation, embodied connection, and collective liberation on the dance floor and beyond. It’s a practice and a dream inextricably tied to their belief in a free Palestine, freedom for Lebanon, and autonomy for colonized peoples everywhere.

as i'm sitting in still water reflections and finally sorting through NEMATOCYST documentation, i am holding onto how special it was to create & live in a shared fugitive world with 𝔖hape𝔖hifter at the beginning of this year— how we collectively summoned an undeniably potent force of freedom and aliveness, and got to bask in it together 💧 together, we conjured a whirlpool that took on a life of its own— it sucked us in, tethered us to one another, excavated the unnameable out of us, and spat us back out. water really is both an embodiment and facilitator of freedom and healing— it knows no boundaries, and worries not about getting wet. it surrenders effortlessly to flow, and spills over unashamedly. its rippling connections hold us all. and so, we all crave to be drenched, to be free. ty @shapeshifteronline for helping us throw truly the most epic and memorable performance / party ever 💦 thank you @duckunit_ for physically transporting us into the world of Muck by building a giant pool– a dance floor, a splash zone, a meditative soak, a 𝘩𝘢𝘣𝘪𝘵𝘢𝘵.
