“My souls sits in silence, and then asks again, where are you in all of this?”
— Rumi

New photography series (Re)Silence

Re-silence, or returning to silence, is rooting ourselves back to where it all started. The destination is the point of origin in finding our absolution.

UNIVERSITY OF DAKAR CHEIKH ANTA DIOP HOUSING CAMPUS

8 years ago I embarked on a beautiful architecture journey in collaboration with Hardel le Bihan Architectes. Not many people know that I am an architect. People know me for my career in the art world. Truth is, I have been practicing architecture for the past 14 years discreetly behind the scenes (away from social media).
But today, I would like to share with you this very special project: THE UNIVERSITY OF DAKAR CHEIKH ANTA DIOP HOUSING CAMPUS

It all started back in January 2016 when I met Cyrille le Bihan and Mathurin Hardel, they were commissioned for the student lodgings of the University of Dakar and in search of a collaboration with a local architect in Senegal. We got along right away and so the journey began. One of the first things that they told me was that the site of the University was the last open green space in the over-densely built city of Dakar, and by all means we must find a way to preserve the pulmonary function of this area; I knew right then that I wanted to be a part of this project.
“The cultural identity architect” is how we defined my role, because that was precisely the essence I had to bring forth. On top of the well-thought-of design by Hardel le Bihan, I was given the role to articulate the facades of the 14 new buildings designed to house thousands of students.

The design is inspired from textile patterns and symbolism throughout West Africa. Each facade relates to a specific ethnic group with respect to its ancestral knowledge, which points back to the rightful faculties.

In loving memories of Muhammad “Mika” Mbaye who contributed a great deal to the project management
@hardel_lebihan_architectes le Bihan the whole beautiful team

It is from a place of humility that I present my latest photography series: Re-Silence.

Re-Silence, or returning to silence, is a leap into the profound consciousness that resides within life. Appearances are temporary disguises in movement, thereby the sense of self perception resides against the background of stillness. Re-silence is a journey back to where it all started: the destination is the point of origin.

Discard yourself and thereby regain yourself…
-Rumi

It will be shown for the first time both in Africa and in Asia: In Ivory Coast with Aida Muluneh Studio at the Africa Foto Fair in Abidjan at MuCAT Museum, and in Taiwan at the Tainan Art Museum.

I sincerly want to say thank you to Forbes Forbes Afrique team for doing the most genuine interview on who I truly am. I never thought that my art would travel the world the way it did. That was not the plan. Truth is, there was no plan. If you want to know more about this human journey here’s the link to the article:

Thank you to all of you who found a spark of inspiration in what I do.
A big thank you to Elodie Vermeil who wrote from her very heart this beautiful article, thank you to Mathilde Lafarge for being so passionate about what she does and to her radiant energy, and thank you to Jacques Leroueil for reaching out to me all the way from Rwanda and making all of this possible.

“Forget about everything for a moment,
and see that space which is blurry to the naked eye.
For in that space there is no tension,
there are only feelings and emotions.
A space where we can all dwell for a moment.” — #AlunBe

Since Tomorrow photo by © @alunbe : In every challenge there is opportunities: We shall rise from ashes.

"Whipped Peter", was an escaped American slave who became known as the subject of photographs documenting the extensive keloid scarring of his back from whippings received in slavery.

EVOL invokes the notion of evolution, the spirit of Eve from the garden of Eden, and the inversion of the word « LOVE».

After centuries of patriarchal oppression the spirit of women is finally arising to the fundamental awareness of its forcefulness.

In regaining full consciousness of their natural power the feminine energy transcend to the climacteric role it plays in the coming new era.

The fire of mankind is unconsciously conspiring to the formation of a new era. Yet the blue flame, deep below the conflagration, through which the woman creates, forges, reproduces, transforms, and sprouts new generations has reached its maturity.

We are talking about the inception of a new humanness.
