I myself am a tangle of anxiety and it’s been taking all of my coping mechanisms to manage—sometimes successfully & others not so much. But hey, the shack is almost done. Right on schedule for my ACL/meniscus surgery next week. Thanks the Gods!

Back to anxiety, stress, whatever. Some of the instigating elements of my stress/anxiety are very real while others are extremely-ordinary. Maybe same for you?
I’ve come to accept and even welcome that some of the sensations of what I’ve come to call anxiety are just gonna be there while in that fight or flight state so necessary for our survival…but my breathing, gratitude, sense of presence are all strategies I’ve cultivated to make through these long bursts with as much grace and evenness that I can.
I’m also extremely grateful for, blessed by & reliant upon the community that I’ve grown within.
My native response to stress/anxiety most definitely revolves around movement. When out of whack, I’m either zipping around, frizzing or completely stricken. When I’m stable, I’m set in a good little seat, a nice movement. When presented, my first instinct usually presents as action , then reflection then a little more movement to sort.
Sometimes I wish I took more time before and after movement…but I like my generally like my impulses & trust my instincts & want to keep them. Have access.
So ah, some herbs I think of when I want to rally a little support from my plant allies are skullcap, milky oats, ashwagandha, marshmallow, elecampane, sage and licorice. These are not all classic nervines, & might even seem a little random on first take.
Skullcap is a classic nervine, really useful for the spinning, flitting mind like mine (I like it morning and night.) Milky oats also fits in the nervine category but in a diff way. It restores and builds the sheath on the nerve fibers, which is how they communicate.
