Calling for expressions of interest for community consultation for a new and exciting development. 🖤 Arkie the Label started out as a fashion brand off the back of my graduate degree and some of you may know that outside of my arts practice I have studied and then worked as a designer and creative director in commercial fashion for over 10 years. Fashion has always been something that lights me up, but at the end of last year I made my exit after insane burnout and feeling like my values and the absolute beast of the industry was not matching up. I’ve taken this year out to pivot to working in heath promotion with community (🥲🥹♥️) and really think about what I want to do and whether I want to reenter into fashion and if the world needs another fashion brand. Whilst I don’t think we need another fast fashion brand or a start up masquerading as ethical and inclusive I do feel there’s a gap for considered clothing that is for every body. I really want to make sure that this brand encompasses everything that the community wants and needs, and is important to you. I don’t believe that there isn’t a better way to produce and access clothing and if that means starting small, offering preorder so there are no size limitations or exploring new ways of working then I’m fucking downn with it. I’m looking to consult 10 people - there’ll be food provided for us to share while we yap. The brand direction is aligned with my personal style (Think sexy, special, club, festival, event, femme) and creative style (artistic prints, embellishment, an extension of my creative practice) and will encompass apparel and swimwear. Something recent 🩵🌀 Been picking up my digital paint brush a little more lately and focusing on creating art for the joy of it all rather than the outcome. Have honestly painted so much that will never see the light of day but did make me feel good while creating it haha. I’ve got some new pieces I’ve been working on and I’m thinking it might be time for a new print drop before the Christmas season 👀 lmk if I should… hehe✨

New work for the new @adidasau head office which was officially opened earlier this week. I worked on 2 walls in the boardroom, integrating iconic Adidas logos into the piece. Thank you to @notsonormalproductions always such a pleasure working with you! 🧡

✨✨ Entering a new era of @arkiethelabel ✨✨ I wanted to spend some time looking back on the work that I have done over the years as I enter into a new phase of my creative practice. I learnt how to paint off my Dad and my Grandma and have been painting since I was 4 years old, it’s always been a way for me to ground and drop into my body whilst sharing culture and stories. The last 10 years I’ve been working in the commercial fashion industry in design and creative direction whilst creating art on the side when I could make time for it. At the end of last year I struggled a lot with my mental health due to the pressure I was under and it made me take a real long hard look at where I was and where I wanted to be. At the beginning of the year one of my 2024 ‘outs’ was career progression - off the back of this I want to approach the work that I do in a way that centres joy, creativity and to be present in everything I do. I wanted to wake up and decide then and there I wanted to paint a painting, make something out of clay, bead a top, design a dress. This lil touch base and story is to be continued over the next few days but I’ll be sharing some throwbacks of my work before I start to share some of my current practice as I begin to lean into pure unbridled fun and creativity. Today I’m sharing some of my favourite public art murals I’ve done over the years. ✨

The last time I posted this artwork in 2021 I wrote that there had been 445 Aboriginal deaths in custody. It now stands at over 515. Genocide is ongoing in this colony and has never stopped. January 26th represents continued genocide, mourning, resistance and strength. There is no day in the year that is the right day to celebrate a country built off the continued genocide of Aboriginal people. Australia does not exist. Sovereignty was never ceded. You are on Indigenous Land. I will be releasing a preorder tee and tote this year as per a couple of years ago. Like those - absolutely all profits will be donated to Aboriginal led causes. This year it will be split evenly between @warrevolt and the international legal battle to save a First Nations child from harm and bring her back home led by @nessaturnbullroberts If you would like to donate to these causes separately I will place links in my story and highlights. It’s been a while since I posted on this account 🫶🏼 but happy holiday season and I hope everyone’s doing well 🥰 A couple of years ago I decided that every year I’d make an effort to learn something new, and this year I went back to uni to study Art therapy. It was honestly so rewarding and I learnt so much, I hope one day I can use this knowledge to help support community and healing through art. Art is so powerful and it’s always been something I’ve found peace and healing in.
