One week to go.
Here’s a few ideas for keeping your Christmas sustainable-
• hand make ornaments from pine cones, leaves, twigs, dried fruit and cut up wreaths. These are also gorgeous Christmas presents.
• think of gifting plants and food, something that people can enjoy more than once or all year long
• experiences are great gifts as are charity donations. @amnestyuk have a brilliant store for those last minute gifts too.
• get creative with your left over food!
• make sure to compost those veg scraps from cooking Christmas dinner
• look into sustainable Christmas tree disposal. Lots of council now use the Christmas trees for wood chipping in local parks
• remember Christmas isn’t about fancy gifts. Your loved ones want to see you and spent quality time. Look at public transport to see them where possible.
What are you doing to keep your Christmas sustainable?
It’s hard to put into words the full extent of my emotions around Monday. If I’m honest I don’t think I have the full vocabulary to even begin.
Thank you so much to everyone that put Monday together. The @fellowshiphair team are a power house of individuals 🌟 from our amazing HQ & board, our Pr & events @ajcpr@alison.jameson@laurengrieve18 & team, our clubstar & youth board helpers, @clivesilver_ & his amazing team @csmedialtd and of course the incredible presenters that stood alongside me for my first Luncheon as President 🌟 @michellegriffinhair@barrystephens_@lisafarrall
Thank you to everyone who has messaged, phoned or spoke to me about what a fantastic day you had. You could feel the energy in the room. It was all encompassing, full of encouragement & love. For our community. For each other.
When I first joined the fellowship (over 16 years ago now) you could feel it was a family, but it was an exclusive one. We have been working tirelessly behind the scenes to change that. When I stepped into my Presidency I wanted to step into an organisation that was an inclusive community. And that’s exactly what it felt like on Monday.
Thank you to that amazing community for supporting me through what has been the biggest honour of my career to date. Standing on stage as your President 💖 and this is just the beginning 🌟
To all that know me know what an activist I am, and my roles within the fellowship have always given me a place to funnel that passion for a better world somewhere. What was so special on Monday was the amount of people that came up to me and said they finally felt seen, heard and represented. That means more than I can begin to explain.
It is my honour to be your President, not because of the fancy title or the nice chain (which I do enjoy) but because I know we are all moving the industry we love forward, together. With community & strength.
Thank you all for showing up on Monday. For the fellowship, for me, for our community and for our industry.
Looking forward to us creating more magic together in 2025 🌟
Love your President Barbie 💖

Tomorrow I take to the stage to host the @fellowshiphair luncheon again. This is my 4th luncheon (2 in person & 1 night with the fellowship in a car park 😅) that I have had the privilege of being a host. Previously with my partner in crime @kenpicton during his presidency, as his chancellor. Which I have to say is some of my very favourite times during my time with The Fellowship.
Tomorrow I take the stage as your President. Your youngest female President. I want to say a huge thank you to everyone for welcoming me over the first 6 months of my tenure. I’m so excited to celebrate with you all.
Tomorrow the luncheon makes history with the 3 main hosts being women. I hope this is a turning point in not only the organisation but our world. I hope this becomes the base line and that we see so much more progress above and beyond this. Our future needs it.
Today is normally my #sustainabilitysunday and for us to progress into a sustainable world we need diversity & inclusivity.
I was lucky to be able to watch @karinejacksonsalon & @jo_martinhair hold positions of power within The Fellowship & stand on that stage, which inspired me to keep going. Thank you both. I hope tomorrow myself, @michellegriffinhair, @lisafarrall and the rest of our incredible board can inspire more people.
See you all tomorrow for a fabulous day, and don’t forget we have an after party, so I’ll see you all on the dance floor 🪩

The last few weeks have been crazy and I have so much content to share with you. Starting with a little photo dump from London Design festival where I was invited to be apart of an incredible initiative from @haircycle_ & @studiosannevisser showcasing a new circular cycle for hair waste. No landfill here. Just beautiful art and sustainable projects 💚

Last week at London design week @studiosannevisser showcased what they have been working on.
HairCycle: a pilot study to explore and test regenerative, local, bio-based and circular models for human hair waste.
HairCycle aims to revolutionise perspectives on the value of waste, focusing on the locally abundant resource of human hair.
The research transcends conventional approaches to ‘recycling and waste’ by focusing on behaviour change at the local level, whilst captivating peoples’ curiosity and imagination using participatory methods and creative material exploration.
Working with the London Borough of Newham, this project will develop and test new systemic methods and models for the collection, recycling and regeneration of human hair waste from local hairdressers/barbershops to support the green transition in a local context. The project considers the local needs of hairdressing practices alongside the Council’s Reduction and Recycling Plan, to combat waste whilst generating multifaceted value for people and planet to thrive within their local, circular bioeconomy.
And me, Ash and Sash had the pleasure of cutting 🤍
