the long awaited post about ✨bali✨ when i got an email from @soundsdifferent_org to be a mentor at their first ever [spaces] event, my eyebrow was raised. i am a board member of imposter syndrome industries (you may have heard of it — we put the “u” in self-doubt) and i thought maybe this was a mistake. as i would come to find out, the organizer behind this retreat had read an article about me on @mixmag from a couple years ago and said “that’s my girl.” sometimes the world has a funny way of bringing things back around — thanks mixmag! anyways… fast forward to this past month: i sacrificed a holiday typically reserved for time with family (thanksgiving) and took a leap of faith that sent me across the international time barrier via 23 hours of flights to a corner of the world i knew very little about to spend a week with total strangers. in the process, i met some amazing artists with progressive ideas about music, culture, and community… the talent i witnessed never ceased to amaze me and it made me want to be a better artist. on top of that, i found myself making lifelong friends and core memories that i will cherish forever. i am honored, grateful, and humbled that i would be asked to be part of such a groundbreaking, innovative, and inclusive event. i look forward to seeing where these people i’ve mentored go and to the music that will no doubt result from this time spent together. major shout out to @aya_studios and @kropakcanggu for hosting us and to bo from sounds*different for organizing this amazing opportunity. also lots of love to my fellow mentors - moss, eluize, and trixie - for being amazing partners in this process (y’all are the best and ilysm). if you wanna know more about any of these artists, i highly recommend checking them out: @trixiewanderlust @eluizemusik @mossmuzic @skorpion__king_ @ray.komai.sounds @soulti__ @marnieofficial_ @amirsabir @____swords @chescarramirez @bo.percival.music @antonnercs @amorositie

STORY TIME 📚 anybody who has picked my brain about my musical influences has probably heard me wax poetic about @dfarecs⚡️— one of the artists during that iconic run in the late 00s / early 2010s was the incomparable @planningtorock: someone whose music explored the gamut of various forms of electronica to share complex themes of self-discovery, gender expression, and catharsis. a few years ago, early on in my transition (and desperate for community), i had the honor of connecting with jam. it’s truly surreal to have made friends with someone whose artistry and steadfast dedication to inclusivity i’ve admired for so long, but it’s a blessing i don’t take for granted… which brings me to this remix… jam had made the stems for GYFLOMB available a long while back and i made this remix to play in my sets. it’s punk. it’s warhol. it’s a battle cry. and at long last, y’all can get your mitts on it. trans and women’s rights to bodily autonomy are under fire more now than ever before and this track is a giant brick in the direction of any person who wants to try me. you can find it exclusively on ✨bandcamp✨

🌴photo dump🌴 i’m still physically / mentally recovering from the jet lag, but spending the last couple of weeks bouncing between bali and hawaii with my mom, @sipeseser, has been a blessing — feeling rejuvenated and grateful that we got to have this time together — major shout to the @soundsdifferent_org team as well (more on that experience to come) ✨
