Kim Kardashian is ending the year on a high note, opening the first flagship in New York City for her rapidly expanding Skims brand, on Fifth Avenue in the heart of midtown.

The building is in an auspicious location at 647 Fifth Avenue near 52nd Street, home of the Versace brand for two decades and next door to the Cartier Fifth Avenue Mansion.

With 6,570 square feet of selling space over four floors, a dedicated room devoted to collaborations, a showroom/VIP area, office space and 175 employees, it’s the brand’s sixth and largest store yet — and a milestone for the company that earned a $4 billion valuation last year.

I sat down with Skims cofounder and chief creative officer Kardashian and cofounder and chief executive officer Jens Grede to discuss their love of brick-and-mortar stores (Kardashian’s first job was in retail at a store called Body in the Valley), their slow-and-steady approach to retail expansion, the success of the North Face collaboration that sold out online in five minutes, Skims’ evolution into an apparel brand, their plans for 2025 and that rumored IPO….

A few interesting points:

“We’ve had close to 10 million customers,” Grede said of the brand’s overall reach. “We know where they are, and we’re able to talk to them. And one of the amazing learnings is in terms of new customer acquisition, and just how much more productive a city becomes once we have a physical store,” he said.

And…“I know every single product that we have, I have fit every single product that we have coming out. And I know if there is something that slid by me, that I didn’t get the final approval on from the detail on the stitching,” Kardashian said of her role.

And…Could Skims one day be on the runway?

“I can absolutely see us doing a show, not like a regularly on the fashion schedule show, but maybe something a little bit more unique,” Kardashian said. “It would have to be an experience more than a regular show, but I would never rule anything out.” Story @wwd and linked in bio. 📷 @alexgharper

The setting couldn’t be beat. Sunset. A sunken square courtyard filled for the occasion with pale blush crushed stone, in front of Diego Rivera’s imposing volcanic rock temple to the arts in Mexico City.

“Having a sunset palette hitting volcanic rock, it was an immediate no-brainer for me,” creative director @wesgordon said of choosing @anahuacalli for Thursday night’s @carolinaherrera resort 2025 show.

On the runway, it was a celebration of color, which has been creative director Gordon’s “north star” in his role, and a celebration of Mexican craft.

In the seats were 500 guests including Karlie Kloss, the face of Carolina Herrera Good Girl perfume, Mexico City native and “Baby Reindeer” star Nava Mau, “Roma” actress Yalitza Arapicio and more.

Gordon collaborated with the Mexican Ministry of Culture to bring four Mexican female artisans into the creative process.

“When we do a destination show, it’s really important to us that it’s not just recreating New York Fashion Week in a different place,” he said. “We view this as a real honor and an opportunity to collaborate and enrich our story…The reason we’re here is because we’re inspired by Mexico–and it was such an amazing opportunity to collaborate with these four talented women,” he said, underscoring their shared language with Herrera.

These luxury designers of Mexico as one should call them, brought the art of embroidery, talavera blue glaze ceramics and painted jícaras to ready-to-wear and accessories, including a double-breasted ultramarine blue blazer with ceramic talavera tiles by Jacqueine Espana on the lapels; a pink-and-green floral and animal shirt embroidered like a huipal by María de los Ángeles Licona San Juan, Maestra Nähñu, worn with clay-colored palazzo pants; and an extraordinary halter gown made of strips of black and white embroidery with tiny birds and flowers by Virginia Veronica Arce-Arce. Tod’s went big for new creative director Matteo Tamburini’s first visit to L.A. in the role, luring a high-wattage crowd to an intimate dinner at Sunset Tower Wednesday night.

Guests included Kerry Washington, Matt Bomer, Edgar Ramirez, Kelly Rowland, Amber Valletta and stars from two of the best streaming shows on TV right now, Justine Lupe from “Nobody Wants This” and Natalie Martinez and Michelle Monaghan from “Bad Monkey.”

The investment in the event was a flex for the luxury brand, reflecting its long-standing connection to Hollywood and the easygoing L.A. lifestyle, going all the way back to the ’90s when Tod’s trademark Gommino driving mocs were the shoe of choice for A-listers Julia Roberts, Tom Hanks, Sharon Stone and Mel Gibson, to name a few, and chief executive officer Diego della Valle built one of the first VIP terraces at the Tod’s Rodeo Drive boutique so celebrities could shop in private.

A good omen for Tod’s and Tamburini, the next gen were loving the fall collection looks they were wearing, which showcased the designer’s modern, minimal approach to softly draped, body-conscious and relaxed leather and ready-to-wear, honed by his experience at Bottega Veneta.

Bootstrapping her business using $30,000 of personal savings, fashion prize and grant money, Diotima designer Rachel Scott has created one of the most exciting new women’s luxury brands to come out of New York in years. With her authentic, nuanced and inclusive vision of Caribbean style rooted in tailoring, sportswear and knit dressing with handcrafted details, fringe and embellishment, she’s achieved the combination of everyday and extraordinary that fashion can’t get enough of right now.

Her spring 2025 collection, shown in a movable presentation format, conjured Jamaican pocomania, prim-and-proper churchgoing and dance hall partying in a rush of sequins, fringe, palm frond embroideries and skin, and was universally praised as one of the best of the season across all cities, leading to pick up from additional retailers. She now has 25 accounts globally, including Bergdorf Goodman, Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom and Net-a-porter. For spring, she has also broadened her range by offering her first denim, footwear and embellished bags.

“It’s been a great year and we’ve grown — orders are up 30 percent from last year and 25 percent from last season,” Scott said at her studio on the Lower East Side….

“I think for a while we were missing a modernized, female-led, sensuality across the fashion collections at large. Diotima offers a sultry haven for the modern woman, inclusive of all the intricate qualities that come along with that, be it the desire to be more androgynous, provocative or intellectual,” said @marikaella.ames who styles the collection’s presentations, campaigns and look books, as well as creatively consulting for the brand. “Not to mention the fact that Diotima is also the first rising fashion house to come out of Jamaica, which is as historical as it is exciting. To see the anecdotes and nuances of Jamaica, its history and its culture, be so profoundly received throughout the industry is powerful.”

My @wwd cover story about @diotima.world ahead of the @cfda awards on Monday where @rachelleighscott is nominated as Best Womenswear Designer of the Year.

“Oooooh, you look stunning,” Diane von Furstenberg purred, seeing @cindycrawford walking in wearing her circa 2000 archive wrap dress.

“Diane’s was the first show I did in New York,” the supermodel said, arriving at the galleries of the Skirball Cultural Center on Tuesday night for the opening of “Diane von Furstenberg: Woman Before Fashion,” making its North American debut at the Los Angeles museum and Jewish institution founded in 1996.

“I love that you’re wearing this dress,” the designer said as the two sat together sharing a moment. “I have lived a life,” she reminisced, as the exhibition does, on her 50-plus year career.

“She showed women how to dress for work and still be sexy,” Crawford said of von Furstenberg’s impact. “It wasn’t women wearing men’s clothes.”

“For a lot of us here, we learned how to operate in the world watching her and by her leading through example,” said @jessicaalba “When I was starting my business, at first I was fearful, but she opened up so easily and was so welcoming, sharing her wisdom and advice,” the Honest Company founder continued. “She’s this warm hug but then this fierce icon.”

Lauren Sanchez was huddling with Barry Diller in conversation as the cameras snapped around them. “She’s a light,” Sanchez said of her friend, von Furstenberg.

The love was all around for @therealdvf at the opening of her exhibition at the @skirball_la last night. My story @wwd with pics from @bucknerphoto
