🎻Today is National Violin Day, highlighting an instrument that was instrumental in breathing life into the Smoke, Embers, Ash score. SEA’s composer, the immensely talented @brandon.blanchard.music spoke about the violin’s impact on the music of SEA: “In the score for Smoke, Embers, Ash, I found the violin played a crucial role in supplying the right amount of both texture, and tension. Early on in the writing process, I felt the music needed an ambiance that shape shifts, slowly morphing over time like smoke floating through a room. The violin became my perfect companion, covering the woeful leading melodic lines just as well as the looming background tones. Some of the most important sounds of the score includes groups of violins playing long notes that slowly drift in pitch over time. Different bowing techniques created sonic character varying from warm and gritty textures to flame-like airy and hissing notes. Today marks the release of my soundtrack for the film “By Candlelight”! You can find links to your music service of choice in my bio. 🎶 The story follows a young accomplished pianist, who after just moving into a new home, is excited to sit down to play and write new music - only, he finds himself against the cold wall of writer’s block, unsure of what to play. A new neighbor hears through an open window our young pianist struggling to find the music and offers a few notes of inspiration to get him started. Soon, they find themselves playing together, zipping ideas back and forth through the windows until they play in sync, and a whole new piece of music is born. This film is currently in its festival run! I’ll be sure to share where it’s playing, and how you can watch it. For now, I hope you enjoy the soundtrack, as I enjoyed writing it very much. My sincere thanks to animator and director Hunter Hoffman for brining me on and trusting me with the musical landscape of this film. Earlier this year, my friend Paul reached out to me to ask if I’d be interested in scoring a short film he was editing. From the moment I heard the story, I was locked in. Writing the music for “A Little Dead” was such a privilege, and throwing myself into this story was some of the most fun I’ve ever had on a music project. I’m also incredibly grateful for the new friendships I’ve made through this process. I had the chance to visit Oklahoma City for the screening, and watching the final on the big screen with everyone was an experience I’ll never forget! Paul, Ben, Andrew, it has been wonderful working with you and I look forward to all we get to work on in the future! Thank you as well to @vbmphoto for having me! Here’s to what’s next. In the first week, The Hero Within hit 1,000 all time streams. In the grand scheme, this is a very, very small number. But to me, right now, it’s massive.
