After a much needed week of doing absolutely nothing, I am finally able to step back and reflect on the incredible show we put on last Sunday, our second annual Reworked Runway Event. When I entered this industry I found not only a lack of environmental impact awareness but also a lack of community, fun and joy! Not all political statements need to come from a place of fear, anger and frustration. Reworked Runway has been a project filled with celebration and beauty, uplifting and honoring the incredible fleet of designers who are creating wearable art sustainably and in turn revolutionizing an industry that is long overdue for change. This past Sunday April 21st, we honored these designers, their hard work and beautiful creations by creating a narrative of rebirth in the fashion industry through dance. We could not have pulled off a show of this caliber without the dedication from our incredible Reworked Runway team. Thank you Lily and Lavy for choreographing an incredibly moving dance performance, our dancers for their hard work and pure talent, Sabrina Song who created the moving soundscape that tied the entire show together, our designers for creating garments sustainably in a world where fast fashion dominates, and our sponsors Big Reuse Center, Materials for the Arts, and Sun Moon Rising Wine. And the biggest thank you to myself, Bella and Devon for bringing this show to life with a small budget from ticket sales, hours and hours of time and energy fueled by sheer passion and a big dream to create something pure, joyful and beautiful in a world where creation has become commodified.
