This week on the @fox8nola Digital Desk my guest was musician, artist, and all around Louisiana legend Louis Michot, a two-time Grammy winner as the frontman of Lost Bayou Ramblers. He’s headlining back to back nights at @cacnola this weekend in celebration of the one-year anniversary of his solo release debut. I’ve been a longtime admirer of Louis and enjoyed speaking to him about the intricacies of Louisiana culture and opening the portal to the living past. As fate would have it, Louis ended up stopping by the station today and got a chance to chat personally and it was like meeting up with an old friend. Monday! @cacnola hosts a Conversation with @prospect_nola artist, Christian Dinh (Tulane MFA ‘22).
Christian Việt Đinh’s body of work centers on his experience as a second-generation Vietnamese-American citizen and the Vietnamese culture that developed in the United States subsequent to the Vietnam War. His artwork redirects stigma and celebrates Vietnamese-American identity by confronting racism, stereotypes, and underrepresentation.
Đinh received a BFA from the University of West Florida, Pensacola in 2017 and an MFA from Tulane University in 2022. His work has been featured in numerous exhibitions, including Focus Spotlight: Nail Salon and Knowing Who We Are: The Contemporary Dialogue at Ogden Museum of Southern Art, New Orleans, LA; Delta Triennial Exhibition at Arkansas Museum of Fine Art, Little Rock, AR; Legacy Traces: Recent Additions to the Museum Collection at the Newcomb Art Museum, New Orleans, LA; and Trường Ca Mươi Ngàn Năm at the Ohr-O’Keefe Museum of Art, Biloxi, MS. Furthermore, he was a recipient of the 2023 Take Notice Fund from the National Performance Network. Đinh’s work has been featured in PBS Newshour, The New York Times, Ceramic Monthly, The Times Picayune, Frieze Magazine, and Burnaway.

Shannon Alonzo's (@shanalonzo) Three Whistles and a Howl pays tribute to Carnival's spirit of resistance.
Alonzo’s suspended installation, Three Whistles and a Howl, pays homage to the blue devil masqueraders of Paramin, a village in northwestern Trinidad. The blue devil is a traditional character of Trinidad Carnival, rooted in liberation and resistance, with origins in the canboulay celebrations—organized bands of enslaved West and Central Africans who performed reenactments of sugarcane fires.
Featuring two masked figures with multi-patterned arms and legs, the installation evokes the energy of many bodies dancing as one. Larger-than-life hands grasp the masks’ facades, as if concealing the figure underneath, creating a theatrical encounter that draws on Carnival’s histories of collectivity and resistance.
On view at the Contemporary Art Center (@cacnola) for Prospect.6 until February 2, 2025.

Climate change serves as a pivotal theme in Prospect.6, notably in Orphan Well Gamma Garden by artist Hannah Chalew. Using a valve from an orphaned well as a striking symbol of the Oil & Gas industry’s impact, Chalew’s work embodies the environmental crises facing Louisiana and beyond. During her recent talk at the Contemporary Arts Center as part of Prospect.6’s opening, she shared how the climate crisis shapes her artistic vision and commitment to themes of recovery and resilience.
With Prospect.6, Co-Artistic Directors Miranda Lash and Ebony G. Patterson position New Orleans as a powerful lens through which to examine climate change, colonial histories, and our shared sense of home. In a city defined by its resilience amid hurricanes, coastal erosion, and vibrant cultural expressions, Prospect.6 honors the people who embody New Orleans’ spirit and asks what it means to speak from a place rather than at it. Through this lens, New Orleans emerges as both a mirror and a guide, offering profound insights on how to live in harmony with an ever-changing world.
CAC Members: enjoy free admission to P.6 on Mondays.
