While some states are throwing away books of Black and Indigineous history, the @seeingblackphotography book is even more important world wide.

Much gratitude to all the beautiful souls who make @seeingblackphotography what it is! Kalamu, Eric, Girard, Renee, Lydia, Shana, Thank you!!!

To all the amazing venues that hosted this work and produced this work, to the funders and supporters, Thank you! @ashe_cac @readcbc @noaamtreme, UNO Press, Contemporary Arts Center, etc

And especially to all of the creatives who have art featured in this beautiful ever growing body of work!

It is such an honor to be a part of this and I hope all yall go and her you a copy or seven. They are only $40 buck and it’s valued at over $100 but also priceless in my eyes.

Get your copy from @readcbc or even from me when I’m popping up slinging them thangs at a market near you.

I just had to do a recap of how far we have come with this work. I know the creators began before 2023 but the first frame event was then and this book is images from 1840 and beyond so gotta make sure to pay homage to all the ancestors who paved the way for me and my comrades to continue picking up our cameras and helping others coming behind us to pick up cameras too.

We got love, better believe it! One Love, C #WCWM

💦 🌊 💧 @waterleadersinstitute x @cfreedomphotography504 has teamed up for a wonderful photo essay called Life at the Levee, exploring some of the various ways people connect with the waterways in New Orleans and surrounding areas.

Check out a few images you might recognize some of the spaces, gatherings, and activities that happen there.

This is an aerial photo of @ashe_cac Maafa Commeration in 2023.

You will even find an image of @neworleansartdepartment Reset at Sunset event.

Please comment some of your favorite spaces and gatherings that happen by the waterways in New Orleans.

As healing, spiritual, and cultural gathering places waterways should be available for all people. Water is life. Water is sacred. Keep the waters ways safe and clean and also FREE for the people to visit.

View "Life at the Levee," a photo essay by @cfreedom504 at watermapneworleans.com (click STORIES). From Algiers Point to Bucktown to Lincoln Beach, explore some of the many locations where people in New Orleans and Bulbancha live on or around levees.

Putting a boat in water, going for a jog or bike ride, looking for birds, making music, building community, and seeking spiritual sustenance -- these are just some of the ways in which New Orleanians cross over manmade barriers in order to connect with the waters that surround us.

This is an expanded version of the photo essay featured in the Fall 2024 issue of the Water Map, released last Saturday.

My life consists of a variety of travels….long and short. My dad taught me about short travels at a young age. Growing up in down town New Orleans, my siblings and I would travel uptown to spend time with my dad on weekends. He was also the king of road trips, from New Orleans to Mississippi and Alabama.

Eventually life expanded into longer travels. My dad always was a bit skeptical of my international travels, even as he was an international traveler in the Marines. I still would go ahead with exploring the world. I’ve gotten to do it much more as he is an ancestor and I’m always remembering him and wondering if he is proud of how far I’ve traveled and how much I’ve seen and experienced. I’m sure he is the reason many things are working out as he is one of the many ancestors guiding and protecting my steps along the way.

This photo is from a visit to Cuba in 2017. It is one of the images from my upcoming photography book and exhibition called Window Seat. This is on a bus ride from the Holguin airport as we drop to Santiago de Cuba. I felt right at home. I look forward to an opportunity to visit Cuba again. The people were very kind and I made some friends there.

I give thanks for the many opportunities I have had to see different parts of the world. It is my honor and duty to share some of the stories and visuals with you all. I hope it inspires you to see and share the world from your eyes and heart as well one day.
