Rhoptropus bradfieldi (Bradfield’s Namib Day Gecko). As the common name suggests, this is a diurnal gecko. It is an ambush predator, feeding mainly on moths, beetles and ants. Its dark colouration may help to absorb more sun, which is more limited in its foggy coastal region of distribution. How beautiful is the colour of its eyes!! Dorob National Park, Namibia.

One of my favourites… Crassula corallina (the species name originating from the plant’s coral-like appearance), commonly known as ‘Coral Stonecrop’, and in Afrikaans as ‘Hasieskos’ (rabbit’s food). The above I photographed in the Somerset East area, Eastern Cape.

Bitis caudalis / Horned Adder lying in ambush. In image 3 one can see how it is easier to spot the tracks before seeing the actual adder!

… And of course there is always one song in particular that goes with Horned Adder posts!
