BIG NEWS! Our short film You Are My Tomorrow will premiere at the 2024
@melbfilmfest in the Australian Shorts program.
The film is a deeply personal reflection on intergenerational trauma, mental illness and the complex dynamics between mothers and daughters within the Turkish diaspora.
When I was 18, my mum developed chronic anxiety and panic disorder. Her identity and sense of self dramatically shifted. Soon after, so did mine, as I started to experience anxiety of my own. I helped her through her struggles, especially when she couldn’t help herself. Growing up, I noticed our challenges were similar to those endured by my aunties, close Turkish family friends, and their daughters. It became evident that this was a pervasive experience, affecting women and their daughters within our community.
I wanted to make the film to process my own emotions, but ultimately to offer solace to those navigating the sometimes fraught, but magical relationships we have with our immigrant parents.
