To all you Makgeolli lovers! (막갈리) Makgeolli is Korea’s oldest most traditional alcoholic beverage, with rice being the main ingredient - and it is pure magic. I consider it..Milk of the gods 🤤🍶 Recently, Màkku, a New York-based Makgeolli Brand, sent me a bunch of their tasty creations to try, and I’m hugely in love lol. If you’re in America and curious about makgeolli, I 100% recommend giving Màkku a try. Check them out and have a glass..or ten. lol Living in Korea, I’m spoiled with Makgeolli everywhere, from convenience stores to supermarkets. But back when I lived in California, finding Makgeolli was a bit of a challenge. My only option was to visit a Korean market, and even then, the selection was very limited and didn’t quite have the taste I found in Korea.

In Korea, makgeolli is traditionally served in bowls, rather than glassware. Why? We’re not 100% sure. Our theory is that, in times of hardship, farmers used to replace rice with makgeolli, since it filled the belly, quenched thirst and made the day’s work a little bit more enjoyable. So they probably drank makgeolli out of their rice bowls! #makgeolli
