Ruth Lewandowski // Feints // 2022
🍷
@ruthlewski Feints is a wine that can be slightly hard to classify, which is part of the reason we love it. In the glass it presents kind of like a red wine, kind of like a deep rosé. It’s amorphous character extends into its construction, as it can often contain small amounts of many different aromatic white and red grapes, but at its core it’s a full carbonic co-ferment of the white grape Arneis, and red grapes Dolcetto, Barbera and Nebbiolo. It is bright and perfumed and reminds us a little bit of vermouth, albeit dramatically more drinkable. Dry, light, but deeply complex.

@evanlewski has described his inspiration for this wine to me as coming from his experience drinking more acid driven, lightly macerated, crunchy reds in continental Europe - the types of wines that the farmers would drink while he was interning in France earlier in his career. He won’t call it Glou Glou, but that’s basically what we’re talking about. It’s completely unpretentious wine, that goes great with food, and is dangerously easy to drink.

As we discuss our friend’s wine, it’s undeniable that Evan is the one we are closest with. Every little detail of Evan’s approach to making wine resonates with us. His vision is truly an inspiration. On a more personal note, he’s incredibly kind, giving, hilariously funny, mixes the best martini in the land, and has the voice of an angel (get him singing ‘90s country and your will be in awe). For these reasons, and so many more, he is our head winemaker, based in Healdsburg, CA.

Harvest season is now in full swing and I’m out here for my 4th consecutive harvest. That means I helped (a tiny bit) make the ‘22 vintage that we are currently serving. ‘24 Feints is in tank now and, again, I had a small hand in its production. Check out our stories for a behind the scenes look at the process.
