❄️Ritual of Senses returns for another seasonal ceremony❄️
•
Pre-order for our next pairing package, to be released at our Winter Solstice celebration event, (December 19th @eulogyavl), is now live on the @burialbeer webstore. Link in bio.
•
Contents of Package:
🎶
1x limited edition cassette with digital download
Chandra Shukla - “Hima हिम”
Chandra Shukla (aka Xambuca) is Asheville based experimental/avant-garde musician, co-founder of record label Erototox Decodings, and founder/perfumer of Xambuca Olfactory. With “Hima हिम”, Chandra has created a zoned out electro-acoustic masterpiece, featuring his signature amalgam of amplified sitar and electronics. With these sounds, he aimed to conjure memories of winter, in all their frozen vividness and thawing deliquesce. “Hima” translates to Cold. The first single, “Chhattisgarh छत्तीसगढी़” is available now on Bandcamp. Link also in bio.
🪔
1x limited edition jar of incense by Xambuca Olfactory - “TAPA तप्” - created in collaboration with VISUALS
With Chandra’s perfumery project, @xambucaolfactory, he creates unique perfumes and incense using all-natural, exotic ingredients and thoughtful blending techniques. With “TAPA तप्”, like Hima, the goal was to create a scent reminiscent of winter, or perhaps the holiday seasons. “Tapa” translates to Heat - something to warm you in the cold months.
🍷
1x 375ml bottle of VISUALS Aperitif Wine
Evoke A Tranquil Frost
Created in collaboration with Chandra, with red wine as the base and featuring a considered selection of various edible botanicals found in the incense. Through ingestible viniferous abstraction, winter’s essence is distilled.
🤝
An intentional, meditative experience with all three components shall lead to a higher state of mind.
📦
Comes packaged in a wood box, stamped with a branding iron and hand dyed with VISUALS wine.
🎛️
Mark your calendar for the release event at @eulogyavl on December 19th. It will be a free event and feature performances by @chandrashukla__ and various other members of Asheville’s rich experimental music scene including @laomeow, @rodent516 and @bellyfullofstars.

Rooftop Bar ‘Our Friend’s Wine’ Highlight
🍷
Little Trouble // Carbonic Zinfandel
 // Grist Vineyard // 2022
🍷
Production notes: whole cluster carbonic maceration in steel for 8 days before being foot tread. Subsequent primary fermentation on skins for 36 hours. Pressed into neutral oak where, after a rack and return, it remained until bottling. Native primary and secondary ferments, unfined/unfiltered, minimal So2 at bottling.
Some may recognize the vineyard here as it’s the same as our Syrah.
🍷
Tasting notes: sour cherry, plum, black raspberry, black pepper, summertime popsicles
🍷
The people: similar to my previous musings on Evan Lewandowski, I could write far too many words about my appreciation for Sara Morganstern and Jen Reichardt, the owner winemakers behind LT. These women are prolific in their contribution to the world with Sara doubling as director of operations at Ruth Lewandowski Wines and Jen having a significant role in her family business, Liberty Ducks. In addition, they are both mothers, Jen to baby boy Finn with husband Mike D (assistant winemaker for Ruth and Idlewild) and Sara to Cappuccino (the horse!) and an ever expanding collection of dog babies. I’m especially fond of Hammy (pictured) because she reminds me of my old pup Crow ♥️
🍷
After 4 harvests, my California wine friends have become family. For me, this particular wine, thanks to the people behind it (in addition to Woody at Grist), carries with it a certain emotional weight and mystique…which I realize could never directly translate to you…but please know, as you sip it, that it was produced by some really incredible and hard working people, with exceptional passion and integrity.

Just Announced: @burialbeer & @daytrip.avl present DayLit Market on Sunday, 11/17 from 12-5 PM.

Hurricane Helene left artists in the River Arts District and across Western North Carolina without studios and severely impacted tourism when we needed it the most.

Join us in our largest market yet to support local artisans, makers and more as we continue to rebuild Asheville and beyond.

There will be 20+ makers spanning the full Burial Beer campus so grab a drink and visit @eulogyavl, head upstairs to @drinkvisuals, and then venture down to the beer garden for an art takeover. Food will also be available for purchase through the Burial Beer kitchen.

Don’t miss this beautiful afternoon of community and support for our local art community. We’ll see you there.

A campus reawakening. @drinkvisuals opens this weekend.

Tim here to provide an update on our Rooftop Wine & Cocktail Bar. We’ll be open this Friday, 10/18 and Saturday, 10/19 from 3-9 PM with Emma behind the bar serving up imbibes.

@phantompantone will be joining us for a DJ set tomorrow, from 4-7 PM. It’s Zati’s birthday, so come out and celebrate with us upstairs, before heading down for @grimmjoi’s Iglesia del Perreo Miami Club Night @eulogyavl.

On Saturday we return to our beloved pre-show hangs, as @thedeadtongues play a free set on the Eulogy stage at 7 PM. Join us on the roof for some drinks beforehand.

As we filmed this video, @carolinablinds was onsite installing an enclosure system that in tandem with our heaters, will keep us cozy with these lower temps. Come see us this weekend y’all.

The Autumnal Equinox arrives this coming Sunday and as tradition would have it, we celebrate with an immersive event surrounding the release of another Ritual of Senses package. Join us on September 22nd from 6pm to 830pm @burialbeer’s South Slope taproom. This transportive experience of rich sonics and abstracted ferments is free to attend. Tactile and analog versions of both will be available to purchase.
•
Our local musician collaborator for this release is @farewellphoenix (Lynn Fister), a stalwart member of the local experimental music scene. Beyond the seasonal shift, we celebrate the release of Lynn’s gorgeous new album, “The Angels In These Fields”, as well as the aperitif wine we collaboratively made to pair with it called ‘Of A Forgotten Hymn’. The Farewell Phoenix performance will be sandwiched between two additional local acts that we truly adore.
•
First up on the beer garden stage will be @spectralhabitat, the collaborative project of @megmulhearn and @laomeow. For those that attended the Winter Solstice event @eulogyavl, you saw each of these powerful performers individually. Together, the result is utterly transcendent.
•
The collaboration theme continues with the final set of the bill featuring @khandromadrone + @sleep_number_ . Here we see @scootuh_uh_huh on drums (also of Bask, Via), jedboone on guitar/pedal steel and @salami_baby on synths and effects. To my knowledge this is only the second performance of this trio and the first was a showstopper. Not to be missed y’all.

This morning @evanlewski and I went to Klindt Vineyard in Anderson Valley for our much anticipated Pinot Noir pick. We drove out with a rented flatbed and 8 field bins, with the hope of obtaining somewhere close to 4 tons of fruit.
🍇
We’ve been seeking a high quality, organic source for our Pinot for some time now, and at long last, this is most definitely it. The site, unsurprisingly (after seeing its majesty in person), is quite renowned and has played source through the years for some of California’s best Pinot producers.
🍇
The plan is to split the lot and go whole cluster with a half and de-stem the other half. The result should be full of earthy, site specific depth and texture with top notes of perfumey floral and red fruit essence. We could not be more excited for this experience and the wine that will result from it. Now we just need to find patience.

Rooftop Bar ‘Our Friend’s Wine’ Highlight
🍷
Ruth Lewandowski // Feints // 2022
🍷
@ruthlewski Feints is a wine that can be slightly hard to classify, which is part of the reason we love it. In the glass it presents kind of like a red wine, kind of like a deep rosé. It’s amorphous character extends into its construction, as it can often contain small amounts of many different aromatic white and red grapes, but at its core it’s a full carbonic co-ferment of the white grape Arneis, and red grapes Dolcetto, Barbera and Nebbiolo. It is bright and perfumed and reminds us a little bit of vermouth, albeit dramatically more drinkable. Dry, light, but deeply complex.
🍷
@evanlewski has described his inspiration for this wine to me as coming from his experience drinking more acid driven, lightly macerated, crunchy reds in continental Europe - the types of wines that the farmers would drink while he was interning in France earlier in his career. He won’t call it Glou Glou, but that’s basically what we’re talking about. It’s completely unpretentious wine, that goes great with food, and is dangerously easy to drink.
🍷
As we discuss our friend’s wine, it’s undeniable that Evan is the one we are closest with. Every little detail of Evan’s approach to making wine resonates with us. His vision is truly an inspiration. On a more personal note, he’s incredibly kind, giving, hilariously funny, mixes the best martini in the land, and has the voice of an angel (get him singing ‘90s country and your will be in awe). For these reasons, and so many more, he is our head winemaker, based in Healdsburg, CA.
🍷
Harvest season is now in full swing and I’m out here for my 4th consecutive harvest. That means I helped (a tiny bit) make the ‘22 vintage that we are currently serving. ‘24 Feints is in tank now and, again, I had a small hand in its production. Check out our stories for a behind the scenes look at the process.

One final reminder about sessions two and three of Visualizing Vermouth: A Symposium on Herbal Wines hosted by @timperialstout. Session one in Asheville was a great success! I had a blast and got a lot of really positive feedback. I also learned a ton about what elements of the presentation to focus on most, so these next two are primed to be even better. Catch me on Thursday in Raleigh @burialdtr and then on Friday in Charlotte @burialclt .
•
Pictured here you will find the legendary commercial examples and the VISUALS offerings that will be shared and discussed at the event. I’ll be revealing, with complete transparency, my process of formulating the VISUALS aperitif wines. Not to be missed! Link in bio for tickets. ✌️
