From dream to echo, echo to dream #3 — FreelingWaters (@freelingwaters) Imagine that the walls of these galleries could tell us about all the art they have seen. This was the starting point for the mural by FreelingWaters, a collab between mural specialist @gijsfrieling, and letterer @job_wouters Frieling’s style is decorative, mixing disparate images and visual traditions. Wouters explores how he can charge letters with meaning through a particular way of writing. With calligraphic titles, the duo brings our collection into the room. Look: you can see lushly coloured impressionist landscapes, Rubens’s expressive oil sketches, and Salvador Dalí’s refined style. Dalí even had a solo exhibition here in the winter of 1970-71 and walked these halls during the opening. Titles of artworks are often poetic, sometimes short stories in themselves. Even without the actual artwork, your imagination runs wild. FreelingWaters’ mural gives titles a leading role and makes the huge variety of the Boijmans collection visible. We Like Art toont op Art Island (17-19 mei, IJmuiden haven) de bijzondere installatie ‘Painted Books’ van kunstenaarsduo FreelingWaters. ‘Painted Books’ (2023), bestaand uit een verzameling van 20 beschilderde houten objecten.
