Here’s a sneak-peek listen to “Parade” from the original soundtrack for @thelonggamemovie, on Amazon Prime now. This cue uses a British military bugle call, “The Last Post”, as its melodic backbone - a little nod to my Commonwealth heritage and perhaps a little less common to the American ear as “Taps”. @lakeshorerecords releases the full soundtrack to all streaming services this Thursday June 13th. Im very exited to share some footage excerpts from the vocal session for the feature film Went Up The Hill, starring @vickykrieps and @dacremontgomery . This score was a really unique challenge for me to write. The music needed to be intimate and otherworldly, using mostly ambient-style vocals, and a variety of extended vocal techniques, such as: larynx tapping, pitch drifting, whispered ASMR ticks/clicks, vocal breath elements and more. The films character’s deal with some emotionally heavy internal struggles and the score needed to take the audience into, and explore, their internal worlds. I want to especially thank the wonderful @jeniferthyssen and @jennyparrottpie for working with me in the studio as soloists on numerous occasions and being willing to experiment and explore beyond the notes on the page. It has been a long time since I have worked on a personal project that explores faith/religion, and while I grew up in a faith background, I have often felt like I don’t have the breadth of musical expression to convey what I want to convey. When I heard this track by the Brazilian musician Alessandro Vilas Boas, I was drawn to the powerful simplicity of the words and structure and how it lended itself to a visual/film score experience. If I was to summarize this project into one word, that word would be AWE. And even if you don’t come from a religious background, I believe we all still ponder the mysteries of human consciousness and the immense expanse of the universe.
