Story time….. 5 seconds before this photo was taken she had a mini meltdown. This was her first photoshoot with her baby. She didn’t know what to expect, he was hungry, she didn’t want me waiting for her to feed him. She looked at me and her eyes were filling with tears. She didn’t want to blink because she didn’t want to mess up her makeup. I stopped, gave her a stool, had her take a deep breath and reassured her that I was there for her and not in any rush. She fed the baby…. It turned out beautiful. It was a happy accident. I’m typically not a huge fan of breast feeding pictures because you can’t see the babies face but this one I love. I always tend to love portraits more when people have a breakthrough. Lately, we have been having a lot of people come in and push themselves so far past what they thought they were capable of. I just try to remain a safe place for it to happen and capture the confidence that happens afterward. As a small business owner I wanted to introduce you all to a few of the personalities that I have. Each one is a hat that I get to wear proudly. I really live in the photographer and Creative personality but when I am feeling good and I have time I also step into that CEO position really quick…. especially if I am trying to impress my husband or my accountant. It is the end of the year so we are closing 4th quarter and getting all of our receipts turned in and all of our booking keeping done just in time to close the year. I wish I could say that everyone of my personalities was as organized as the CEO….but let’s be real here. Mother Daughter Flower series trial run number 1…. I keep seeing these pieces of art with flowers growing from a woman’s neck. I’ve always wondered how I could make it happen in a portrait or if it was possible. So, I started with mom just to see if it was possible. Then I wanted to see if it would work for a kid as well. I really wish I would’ve made these to match…. I also wish I would’ve done them on the same day so that I could’ve posed them together. However, I didn’t do that…. But I still love how it turned out. Do you like it?

I have the privilege of working with clients who come back year after year, and to me, that is the greatest compliment a photographer could ever receive. There’s something truly special about having someone trust you with capturing their history over time, creating photographs that become moments frozen in time. Camila started coming to me when she was just 3, and she turned 7 last week. Every time we do a ‘mommy and me’ session, I’m amazed at how quickly she’s gone from being held to holding hands — it all happens so fast, faster than I can even put into words. The most precious little Gerber baby there ever was my lil grand baby Gaia. She loves her mom, her books and puzzles. She is a spicy little thing and knows what she wants. It is crazy to think that she is already over half a year old. Before we know it she will be one, and then 10, and then graduating college and getting married. I am so happy that I made the time to photograph her over the holiday. I only get to see here every few months and I don’t want to forget any stage of her growth. 70th birthday present for Chandra from her daughter @dr.rednam was to get everyone in town for a generational photo shoot with all of the women in her family. It was such a beautiful day with so many memories made between them all it was hard to only post one image so I picked a few of my favs. At the very end of the shoot little Kiren realized she has another sari that she didn’t get to wear and she decided she needed to and so we did. Everyone was all dressed and ready to go and she was READY to model. 🤣 Models: Rednam Family

Can I remove sara in photoshop? YES, I can. However, we see at the same exact time. It’s hard to explain but part of a moment is documenting the process and more often than not she becomes a part of the history of creating the moment. Lately, I have just been keeping her in the images because I like seeing what it takes to create a perfect portrait. She knows what it takes and so do I but only the people who have actually experienced it know what goes on behind the perfectness of a portrait before photoshop. Could I have waited to take the “perfect” portrait? YES, and there is another image right behind this one in the set but the difference is this expression on both of their faces. One is not fabricated and the other is. The expression is fully representative of what they were feeling at the time when someone else was in charge of their image. Happy, peaceful, calm and trusting. That is the most accurate representation of the carefully cultivated portraits that I love. Posting this so my kids know I’m THAT girl.

There is a passage in the Bible that as a parent I never thought in a million years would affect me but as my children have grown I have found it to be truth. It talks about when a man meets a partner that they will leave the mother and father. As a parent I have prayed a lot about the person my son would leave me for… and this is her, Kai. The thing I wasn’t expecting is how close she would come to us for us to know her child, our grandchild. I don’t know many people I would stay a week with but she has come twice now to our house for a week, each time without my son. She has given my husband and I one of the greatest joys of my life. I would not have the relationship that I have with my granddaughter without her willingness to close the gap, going the distance, taking the flight and being comfortable enough at our house to let us know her. I am forever grateful for this relationship and I truly believe that God has given my son a wonderful partner as well as an exceptional mother for his child.
