An unexpected delay meant we stayed in Dubai for a day. This is along Al Seef Khor , a waterfront promenade along the Dubai Creek. Developed by a real estate company it was completed in 2017. Called an historical fraud because it was built of modern materials and aged theatrically to indicate hardship. This sculpture is called the Three Printers and is the only public monument to British newspaper making. It was commissioned by the Westminster Press group in the 1950s when they moved to a new building and by the mid 2000s it was consigned to a demolition yard in Watford by developers. However , a journalist called Christopher Wilson discovered it and arranged to have it moved to the Goldsmiths’ Company garden off Gresham Street in the City of London. The sculptor was Wilfred Dudeny who incorporated his name in the sculpture on the stick held by one of the printers.
