Almost 20 years ago, while I was living in Barcelona, skateboarding and working for @carharttwip as a TM and videographer, I got commissioned 2 short edits for a Christmas DVD project called Cirkus Maxximus that was spanning all the cultures they were involved with. As I was in the middle of making Carhartt’s first ever skateboard video with most of the european team, I had loads of footage I knew wouldn’t make the cut for the main project. So I jammed them in those edits and tried to make something different. By then, @edbanger used to send us a few tracks and CDs to use for our edits. French Electro music wasn’t much of a trend in skateboard videos back then, but I wanted to give it a try. Here’s one of them, cut on @sebastian_edbgr song « Dolami », that was originally released on EdRec, Vol.1. In 1999, I went on a California skateboard pilgrimage with @vincebress and ended up sofa surfing for a good 2 months at his friend’s @gowiththeflo_hi ´place in Santa Monica, on 25th street. He happened to have 2 roommates: @stephenfkovach and @coorslightyear. After a few testing days, they allowed us to stay at their crib and I think I had one of the best times of my life there with them and the whole Santa Monica/HotRod click from back then: skateboarding every single day on a different spot with @dr_hoades that would pick-us up after his UCLA classes, going to the @girlskateboards warehouse in Torrance and skating their green metal mini-ramp while Robbie was filling up his weekly boxes, meeting @furrycalamari who seemed to really have taken him under his wing, enjoying a few sessions with him and @ave when they were both 2 upcoming ams on @dcshoes, chilling with one of my childhood hero @ericdressen as he was also staying there, skating USC, the Graffiti Pit, Sand Gaps, Courthouse, Fairfax, hoping fences, Hollywood parties,… even got invited to the Premiere of the @chocolateskateboards tour video where all the industry seemed to attend and met loads of inspiring people for the rest of my skateboard years and built lifelong memories.. so Thanks @coorslightyear, @gowiththeflo_hi and @stephenfkovach.
