The Flow — 1/3 Exploring Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi’s psychological concept of “flow” I had the pleasure to shoot this commercial for @hanasztepanov and @rigushka, two madly talented creatives from Instituti Marangoni. It is always fascinating to see how the artists perform in the set/location by their first instinct. This project was an observation on the camera side since the entire choreography was improvised by the dancers on the spot. The project was awarded as the best of its category in the competition of @theperfectmagazine in 2022. A Man I Know — 1/3 A Man I Know was my first exam film and collaboration with director @anccaradu at university. From scouting all the possible churches in London to deep diving in a swamp, I had a blast in every moment! After testing several focal lengths, We decided to shoot the entire film on one 35mm lens. This decision taught me the lesson how powerful a single focal length could be both subjective and objective perspectives. No Contact — 1/3 Throughout shooting this project I was able to further extend my experience on 16mm colour negative film. Compared to a general low key red toned darkroom, @martmalecka and I decided to depict a harsh, bright contrast between the houselights and the safelights. After we tested the stock under pure red light with LEE Primary red gel, underexposing the negative by one stop gave the finest results in highlight details. In tungsten lighting conditions I usually over exposed by a 2/3 stop. Bergman’s Socks — 1/3 In the beginning of University, we had a task to create an experimental short film that reflected on using the tools of soviet montages. It was an interesting challenge to take on, given the Double-X’s limited latitude and the approximately 30 sec maximum interval of a take that the hand cranked bolex allowed us. I believe that we pushed the boundaries where possible and have produced a short that we are proud of.
