Two people obsessed with light installations walk into station #4 at Astra Lumina 🤓 🌌

Currently sick with covid but hey at least this was me looking not too shabby just the other day!!

It’s hard to express the impact felt from these landscapes - not just because of magnitude, or awe, or the jarring visual reminder of climate change via the shrunken glaciers compared to the ones my mom grew up with (as she made sure to remind us on a daily basis). These mountains have seen everything. They were here long before any of us walked the earth, and will be here long after we’re gone. Everything feels both significant and totally insignificant in their presence (the irony of writing this on IG is not lost on me). But suffice it to say, this visit was a meaningful one. To synopsize: I love mountains!!!!! 🇨🇭🏔️

Yesterday my dad retired from the Library of Congress where he’s been overseeing the world’s largest film, TV, and recorded sound library since 2001. His passion is largely the reason why I do what I do and why I live in LA. I found film through him, but he found it on his own as a farm kid from rural Nebraska in the 60s and 70s. When not working, his hobbies include photographing old movie theaters and drive ins across the country, and meticulously recording and cataloging DVDs. He’s been leading on behalf of film preservation for the last 45+ years, and he works TIRELESSLY. To be honest, I wasn’t sure this day would ever come — he’s so invested in this work and the greater conservation of our cultural history. But now that it’s here, I wanna celebrate him, because holy moly he deserves it!!

My other half is 30 today. THIRTY. How. Who gave them permission?!? I love them. I’m so proud of them (they graduate with two master’s degrees from WashU in a couple weeks). And I’m wrapping my arm around them from afar. Please wish Nina a beautiful birthday!
