In two weeks, on July 19th we’ll premiere our @brotherdege documentary ‘a Hard Row to Hoe’ at @thebroadnola in New Orleans. I finally managed to get some old 35mm film rolls developed, and found these gems. If you are in the area come and join us. And also we’re still looking for donations / support at the gofundme (also in the bio) https://www.gofundme.com/f/a-hard-row-to-hoe-a-documentary-on-brother-dege

The spirit of the independent artist you were will always be with me, and has made me who I am today.
We also produced some of my fav music videos ever for you - first I did a small video for you in South Africa without your presence, starring Laura, with a script I wrote the morning of the shoot - which went on to be my most viewed work ever and went on to get 16 million views on Youtube, only surpassed by your legendary song from Django. We both laughed about it knowing it was partly so famous due to you choosing a thumbnail of Laura in a blonde wig & cowboy hat.
We shot more amazing videos in Berlin directed by Colin Read with my whole gang here, when you stayed at my house with the whole brotherhood, all of whom became family to me: Tom, Kent & Greg all have a special spot in my heart just like you. You just knew how to choose the right people to be cramped up in a dirty tourvan with..
Finally I have worked on a documentary about your ways of living and inspiring fans with your poetry and music. Over the course of 6 years - and I am happy you still got to finish it with me. Our last talks, less than two weeks ago we were both excited about possibly doing a premiere screening of it attached to your Berlin Show this April.
Every couple of years you‘d send me the prefinal versions of your newest album. I‘d always get hyped out of my mind, put the album on, close my eyes and go through the creative explosions your music got me to feel. It felt like such a privilege to be one of the first ones to get the new album and give you my advice. I never had any tho, aside for visuals and musicvideos, since your songs and lyrics were always so on point.
Now you are gone, and I really don‘t understand. You‘ve been such a great person and it is such an honor to call you my friend aside being possibly your biggest fan.
Rest easy Dege. Thank you, I love you man.
My condolences to Michelle, the Brotherhood, his family and his son.

After the tour you & lovely Michelle invited me and Laura to stay at your New Orleans house, and we had such full weeks there. The music & deeptalks never stopped.
My mum also became a huge fan of your music, dancing with her on your shows was a big thing. And there‘s been many times when I was sad you never got the chance to meet my dad who passed just a few years before I met you. Also you reminded me of Basti, my other big brother, and even tho you met briefly through emails and planning , Basti passed away before you got to meet him in person.
And you were there to help me deal with the loss of my brother.
It was the height of covid lockdowns and you told me your old van was also on the way out, and asked if we should just pack it up and drive south from New Orleans until the van dies or we reach the most southern point of the map. Sadly I was too busy dealing with bullshit, so I couldn‘t make it.
Sitting on my mums roof in Brasil while writing this, knowing we would’ve passed thru here to visit her and we would’ve slurping coconuts on this exact roof together - makes it feel like one of the biggest lessons of my life, to always say yes to adventures with friends!
Still - blasting your music into the village & djungle right now makes me smile..

I never imagined I‘d have to write this..
(Part 1/3)
9 years ago I was working on my last independent skateboard video ‚Where We Come From‘, and went to the cinema in South Africa. There I heard your music the first time in Tarantinos ‚Django Unchained‘.
I started searching through your albums, and your music made me finally start playing bottleneck guitar, something I had wanted to learn since a long time. I also quickly got stuck on a song I really wanted to use for the intro of my last skatevideo. I reached out to a random email I found on the web, never thinking I’d hear back or be able to afford an artist I knew from a hollywood blockbuster - but lucky for me you were running your own label and emailed me back immediately, saying you love skateboarding and the punk rock energy around it, and would be stoked if I‘d use your song. We agreed that in return I‘d come to Hamburg and film your show in the beginning of your 2015 Europe tour. I did, and we became friends quickly.
I ended up touring with you and your band every now and then - I joined for the 2016 Europe tour and started working on a documentary on one of my favorite artists, which was really a dream come true.
One of the spontaneous calls I got from you, you asked me to join the US tour opening for none other than Bobby Lieblings Pentagram. Ofc I dropped everything and flew out to Texas to meet you at your second show of the tour, next thing I know I‘m in the tourbus with Bobby and you talking music and life. We toured all the cities in the southlands, and since I spent a lot of my childhood in Florida and touring the US in our family van - it was like coming home for me. Stopping for beef jerky and shitty fries and then jumping back on the road with you in your legendary van ‚Don Quijote‘ made me feel like a kid again.
And your knowledge on any topic impressed me, while you always stayed curious and open for opinions and more knowledge. (Continued in next post)

My mum visiting our musicvideo set - Fun fact: I probably would‘ve never gotten into film if it wasn‘t for her love for movies (& Sci-Fi) and her dream to pursue a directing career herself.
