Hi! I’m Emelie, but I’m leaning more into just Em lately 👋🏼 I’ve been weaving for 12 years and learned the craft in a production weaving apprenticeship in college, where I also majored in fibers. I make handwoven wearable art, wall hangings, and whatever other weird little fiber art things I’m feeling! I live in Asheville and have a studio in the RAD, open by luck or appointment. My 8-shaft LeClerc Artisat lives at the studio and since she’s my favorite loom, I do most of my weaving there!
Over the last few months, I’ve been shifting and realigning my craft practice. I got a part time job at a sweet gallery and while I’m still doing production weaving for my usual handwoven offerings, I’m spending more time with dressmaking, writing, and creativity. My husband is building looms for future weaving workshops. I have a couple exhibits lined up and I’m working on getting my handwoven textiles into more shops and doing fewer markets. Every baby step is one tiny move closer to our someday weaving retreat! Lots of things are moving and changing, but I’m excited for all these good and wholesome things in the works. Thanks for being here and lots of love to you! 💖🌷💕

I’m a production weaver and this is my weaving process! Weaving + sewing wearable art is a long and labor intensive process, but all the work is worth it in the end. It’s always slow fashion season in my little weaving studio and I love it 🥰

A lot of people who touch my handwoven fabric for the first time think it’s silk, but it’s actually wood pulp! 🌿 Tencel is a cellulosic fiber, produced by environmentally responsible, closed loop processes, using sustainably sourced, raw wood material. I love weaving with it and I love wearing it even more! It’s the perfect fiber for wearable art.
Tencel is a sustainable silk alternative. It’s a man-made fiber, but it is not considered synthetic. Tencel is name brand lyocell and is similar to bamboo and other cellulose fibers, with the key difference being that it’s environmentally responsible. Besides being sustainably sourced, the water and solvents used in the solvent-spinning process are recycled into the next batch at a rate over 99%. Fiber technology is really cool! 🥰
In the weaving world, Tencel is known for being exceptionally soft, with an effortless drape and gentle sheen. It creates beautiful fabric that is breathable, fast drying, and moisture wicking, so it keeps you cool while you’re wearing it. It feels like silk, but it washes like cotton. I always recommend hand washing because it’s faster and uses a lot less water, but my work can be washed in a machine on a delicate cycle in cool water.
I love weaving with other fibers too, but for wearables, Tencel’s functionality and practicality wins for me. It feels like a dreamy, soft hug and the shiny fabric and deep colors are strikingly beautiful, while still being easy to care for ❤️

What a weekend! @thebigcrafty was a ton of fun, as always, with lots of tender moments and hugs post-Helene. My heart is full and I’m so grateful I was able to be there. Thank you to everyone who came out to shop, chat, and check in! It was so busy, I didn’t get a chance to walk around much and the only pic I managed to capture on Sunday was this fit check 😆
The Big Crafty was my last market of the season, but I’ll be in my studio at @pinkdogcreative this Saturday from 10-6 and Sunday from 10-5 for the @comehellorhighwater_studiotour. On Saturday, there will be live music in the Big Room where I work, as well as a food truck and artist pop-up.
Come see the big loom this weekend and try on some handwoven wearable art without the awkward arena crowds! I’ll also be around by luck or appointment if you want a little more privacy and time without pressure to see my work ❤️

Yesterday, I celebrated my 33rd birthday and enjoyed a cozy day of hand stitching ornaments, watching movies, and playing with my booth display. We went out for dinner and dessert in a mostly quiet downtown and I couldn’t help but reflect on our Asheville chapter.
We moved here just over two years ago and despite all the destruction around us and how things have changed, I’m grateful to be here and to have found a place to truly call home. This past year—and especially the last two months—have been incredibly difficult, but the love, support, and resilience of this amazing community continue to inspire me and keep me going. Asheville is strong and I’m so proud of us.
This weekend, I’m thrilled to bring my weaving to @thebigcrafty, Asheville’s most beloved art market and big celebration of creative spirit. We participated in our first big crafty a few weeks after moving here and found ourselves overwhelmed by how welcoming and loving the art community here is. When I think of Asheville, I think of that first big crafty and the holiday magic of the mountains in December.
One of my favorite holiday traditions is making handwoven ornaments and this year’s collection is small, but so cozy. These little wool trees are simple, but embody a lot of warmth and love that remind me of home.
Thank you, Asheville, for embracing my art and making this city feel like home. I can’t wait to see so many familiar faces (and meet new ones) this weekend! ❤️

It’s almost time! @thebigcrafty is this weekend and we’re beyond excited to return to Asheville’s most fun, wholesome, and heartwarming event 🫶
I’ve been weaving and sewing while B has been building beautiful new displays. We also found a demo loom so we can bring the magic of live weaving again! We’ll be in the arena at Harrah’s on Saturday and Sunday from 12-6 with all kinds of handwoven goodness 🥰
Ps, if you come by Saturday, please wish B a very happy bday! 🎂

On Small Business Saturday, I had a booth at the Lowe’s Holiday Popup and brought along Mimi the table loom for a little weaving. This was such a special market for RAD artists and it brought me so much joy to share the weaving process on this little loom.
I’m so excited to share that we’ll be bringing a floor loom to @thebigcrafty on December 7th and 8th! We received a Harrisville loom, just like our old Harry, which we brought to every market for years, then lost to the flood. Welcoming this loom to our studio feels like such a big step in the right direction. I can’t wait to weave on it in a few days at our favorite market! 😍

Join me this Saturday, November 23, from 12–5 at Little Crafty: Artist Relief Edition in the Asheville Art Museum Atrium! I’ll have a fresh collection of handwoven scrunchies, headbands, ornaments, and cowls—perfect for gifting or treating yourself this holiday season.
This event is all about supporting local artists impacted by Hurricane Helene. Hosted by @thebigcrafty, @horseandhero, and @ashevilleartmuseum, it’s a great way to shop handmade, visit the museum galleries, and enjoy a cozy cup of hot cocoa from Perspective Café 🥰☕️
It’s free to attend, so stop by and say hello! Let’s celebrate local art and community this holiday season ❤️
P.S. Don’t forget to check out The Big Crafty on December 7 & 8 at Harrah’s Cherokee Center for more holiday shopping with 180+ artists!

I’m weaving a last minute batch of handwoven scrunchies and headbands for The Little Crafty at the @ashevilleartmuseum on November 23rd! After I weave this fabric, I’ll wash it and cut it down into strips to sew some cute hair accessories 🥰

These five handwoven pieces will be part of an in-person fundraiser by @artplaystudionc. I’m honored to take part in this special event. Please join us on Saturday, November 16th from 5-8 for Raising Spirits & Hope. @engagedasheville at 41 N. Merrimon has generously donated their gorgeous space in support of ArtPlay and River Arts District Artists and we’re so grateful for it!
The in-person fundraiser will be an opportunity for artists and the community to come together in the spirit of hope, healing and resilience as we find our way forward in the aftermath of Helene. The event is free and open to the public! There will be 20 artists from @riverartsdistrictasheville represented. All art works featured during this event will be available in person, as well as online, for purchase. Stay tuned for further details! ❤️
