Raising pints, lifting spirits - 🍻 Day 5 of our #12DaysOfGiving shines a spotlight on a true WNC hero — MANNA Food Bank. 🙌 In the wake of Helene, they’ve been working around the clock to ensure no one in our community goes hungry. Just 72 hours after the storm, @manna_foodbank was operational, quickly adapting to feed families across the region despite a near-total loss of their facility. Since then, they have settled into their new warehouse in Mills River, which serves as the heart of their operation — distributing food to over 225 partner agencies across 16 counties and the Qualla Boundary. In the past ten weeks alone, they’ve served thousands through large-scale distributions at the WNC Farmers Market and partner networks. We are proud to continue supporting MANNA through our Milk and Cookies #BeersThatBuild partnership, helping them end hunger in WNC no matter the challenges. 🍪❤️ Let’s raise a glass to their incredible team of staff, volunteers, and partners — feeding neighbors in need and making our community stronger, one meal at a time. #helenerecovery #seasonofgiving

Today, we returned to Spruce Pine for the community market for the Service Center for Latinos. With these photos, we are throwing it back to the end of this October, when the Service Center for Latinos was our first community market after Helene. @nwncfoodbank, knowing that we had lost our facility, partnered with us to provide fresh produce for the community. Together, we served 117 families. That's the power of the food bank network. We cannot do this work without our partners. Partners like Service Center for Latinos who are on the ground, day in, day out, and who know their neighbors on a level that directly influences the type of food and supplies that we bring to a market. Mark your calendars! We have your holiday grocery list covered. @shmetrolina, in partnership with @foodlion and MANNA, will be delivering holiday meal supplies for 1,500 families in and around Asheville, North Carolina. We will be at the Western NC Agriculture Center (Gate 1) on Wednesday, December 18th from 11:30am to 1:30pm, handing out free hams, holiday staple food boxes, fresh produce boxes, and eggs. Please note: we are requesting no early line-ups before 11am. Last night, the @buffalobills braved a blizzard to handily beat the San Francisco 49ers. We know what you're thinking: Why is a food bank in Western North Carolina giving you an update on an @nfl team? Well look no further than Bills' GM Brandon Beane's shoes. Every year, NFL players and team members highlight causes that are important to them through the My Cause My Cleats campaign. Buffalo Bills General Manager Brandon Beane chose both MANNA and Asheville's @brotherwolfanimalrescue to highlight with his shoes. We are incredibly humbled by this choice. It's a bit surreal to see these shoes on an NFL gridiron. Thank you so much to Brandon, his wife @mrshayleybeane, the Buffalo Bills, and the NFL for highlighting MANNA and Brother Wolf during such a precarious time for WNC. As National Native American Heritage Month comes to a close, MANNA FoodBank reflects on the deep histories and enduring legacies of the Indigenous peoples of our region. We honor the Anikituwagi, known as the Cherokee, whose ancestral lands encompass Western North Carolina, including the Qualla Boundary. This land, called Togiyasdi, "Where They Race," holds stories and traditions that teach mutual care and respect for all relations. We remain committed to addressing the systemic challenges that contribute to food insecurity within Indigenous communities. Native Americans experience food insecurity at rates more than twice the national average, a reflection of systemic inequities that impact health and well-being. By partnering with organizations on the Qualla Boundary and beyond, we strive to build equitable access to food and support those working to preserve and strengthen their cultural heritage.
