🥳 I’m thrilled to share that my photograph featuring the beautiful Jay @bld_experiences has been shortlisted for the Palm* Photo Prize 2024. It will be showcased in May at @melkwegexpo in Amsterdam. I’m deeply grateful to @palmstudios for this recognition 🙏 Jay’s portrait is a part of my “DISABILITY & SEXUALITY PROJECT” which represents young women with visible and invisible disabilities. The main idea is to challenge the traditional representation of femininity and female sexuality by creating new beauty standards and confronting expectations and assumptions about the female body with disabilities. Sexuality for people with disabilities has been an area of distress and exclusion. Female bodies with disabilities are not often seen as sexual beings because their bodies may look different from the types of bodies associated with being sexually attractive. Disabled models are rarely seen in online editorials, magazines, or on the runway, and consumers with physical disabilities are frequently neglected by luxury and high street brands. Recognizing this general lack of visual representation, this project aims to normalize the intersection between disability and sex; second, to empower women who may feel marginalized or excluded from mainstream representations of femininity; and third, to raise awareness of equality, diversity, and inclusion in media and fashion. Disabled people have a sexual history marked by oppression, prejudice, discrimination, and violence. Many disabled people continue to have their sexuality, pleasures, and desires denied, problematized, and ignored. Each participant of the project was interviewed using the same set of six questions that aim to explore their personal experiences with sexuality. 🔗 See the full project in the link in my profile.
