Today 3 years ago I went to Kathmandu, Nepal to do something good for body and mind. I did 3 trekkings and I also did #vipassana - a 10 day silent retreat. This was so intense! I also spent a lot of time in Kathmandu - a very vibrant place between China and India! This city is something else! This is a teaser of the documentary @optionb_film that I filmed during a 15 day retreat at the @ra.toltecs.center in Peru. Special thanks to @pietervanreeth for letting me be part of this amazing project about #plantmedicine 🙏🏻 The Toltecs Center is a real hospital with a holistic approach, as @bari_sita_yuxiby explained to us. They go to the roots of your disorder while combining several sacred traditions with ceremonial practices for participants who seek balance and healing through plant medicine. Let me tell you a story about how powerful the sacred diet (Samakey) with the Yawanawa is. I started my diet in January and I prayed for my family as both, my mother and my father, are very ill. My father had a serious operation and when he woke up he went into a psychosis. We weren’t able to talk to him for weeks, as he was hallucinating all the time and I remember he was always talking about a big snake in the hospital. Meanwhile he is mentally back to normal and he told me while he was in that hallucinating state, there was a big snake crawling under his bed and went on the chair next to him and watched him. It was the most beautiful snake he had ever seen and he tried to take a photo with his his phone. But of course, there was no snake on the photo. When he told me this, I realized that the Yawanawa are strongly connected with the Jibóia (Boa constrictor) and the snake came to him to protect him during this hard time. If you don’t believe in spirituality, that’s fine for me, but trust me, there are many things happening you don’t understand. I took this photo exactly 7 years ago, when my life was a total mess. What you see here is not a marathon runner. This is someone who didn’t eat or sleep for days. I was struggling with all kinds of addictions, depression and anxiety. Back then, I always needed something to escape from reality. To escape from myself. Until I decided to go to Nepal to cleanse my body and my mind, because I realized, my body can’t handle this much longer. When I arrived in Kathmandu I applied for a Vipassana meditation retreat. After I filled out the application form, they denied my permission and told me that they doubt I could handle this. I said, please give me a chance. I want to change my life. So they finally let me join the group. This was the first important step into a new chapter, although I went through hell during these 10 days of silence and self reflection. When I returned back home, my eyes were shining again. But after some time, I slowly slipped back into old patterns… Two years ago, I met @_frankhenning who‘s an expert for indigenous medicine and awareness raising - this experience changed everything! It felt like a rebirth. At some point, it actually was a rebirth and I am grateful every single day for this, dear Frank. One year ago I met with Pai Nani and the Yawanawa family for a very deep journey and I awoke my inner warrior. So I decided to go into the Amazon for a sacred diet. What I learned there is absolutely mind blowing a raised my awareness to a new level. I can’t wait to see him again later this year. I am writing this after a long run in the forest, what I do 3-4 times a week. I am meditating on a daily basis. I started to hug trees. I take ice cold showers once or twice every day. I have full awareness of myself and the people around me and I learned to say no to things I don’t want, which is a huge improvement. I might be far away from being perfect, but I started to love myself and my life. So if any of this sounds familiar to you. If you are suffering mentally or physically in any way - go for it! Do it. You can change your life and you may be surprised what a beautiful journey is waiting for you. #vipassana #awakening #meditation #yawanawa
