This Giving Tuesday, we're raising funds to buy handheld water quality meters for use in courses at Camp Davis and Ann Arbor's Huron River. Currently, faculty members share their personal equipment, limiting student training. Each meter costs over $5,000, and donations will make these tools available for fieldwork. If we reach 50% of our goal by midnight, we'll receive special matching funds, doubling the impact of early gifts.

Kimberly Steeh (2024) who participated in EARTH 202, Introduction to Earth and Environmental Sciences in the Rockies reflects on her Camp Davis experience and how experiential learning opportunities like these helped prepare her for the world:

"I am so grateful for my experience at Camp Davis! Learning to make observations in the field was an incredibly impactful experience, and one that I think prepared me, and definitely inspired me, to do field research in the future. Going out in the world to directly study concepts that we had just learned about in the classroom was a really powerful way to integrate theories with observations, and of course, made for a really enjoyable way to learn science."

Camp Davis has launched its very own Cream Puff camera livestream. You can now check out the local view of the Camp Davis campus and our local “peak”! To watch the live camera feed, visit the link in our bio.

In six months, our students could analyze the snow on Cream Puff as runoff in the Hoback River. Because of the generosity of our donors, initiatives like this provide our students with world-class experiential learning opportunities.

Giving Tuesday is today! For more video footage from Camp Davis and for ways to give, check out the link in our bio. Your contributions of any size today will go toward buying handheld water quality meters for the Earth and Environmental Sciences Department to use at Camp Davis, around Ann Arbor, and wherever students are learning about their local environments.

🌊 This #GivingTuesday, help us equip students with handheld water quality meters for use at Camp Davis, around Ann Arbor, and wherever students are learning about their local environments! 🌍 Each meter costs over $5,000, and your donation will make a huge difference.

Hear from Katherine Harpenau on how the experiential learning opportunities we provide our students through your generous gifts helped equip her to tackle real-world issues:
"The opportunity to participate in field experiences and generate real-world data at Camp Davis made me feel that I was contributing to tangible change through my studies. I now feel empowered to use the skills I learned during my time there to navigate my future work, both academic and professional."

Students learn most when they’re out in the field collecting their own data. On Giving Tuesday, help get data in the hands of @michiganearth students, like those in Professor Rose Cory’s aquatic geochemistry course.

Gifts will help purchase handheld water quality meters, enabling students to collect real-time data at Camp Davis, in Ann Arbor, and anywhere else they are learning in the field. #UMich #GivingTuesday
