Runnin’ ‘round the CAR – The Marines with Detachment Bangui, Central African Republic, recently hosted their Region 7 commanding officer and first sergeant for a command visit. For physical training, the detachment led their leadership on a 4.5-mile motivational run and conducted calisthenics at the New Embassy Compound. Although Bangui is one of the most austere, remote, and isolated locations MSGs can be assigned to around the globe, the motivation remains high as the Marines make a difference at their post and in their community daily. Great job, Marines!

Exploring the Ruins – The Marines with Detachment Belmopan recently wrapped up their semi-annual inspection and conducted a cultural event, alongside their MSG officer, to Xunantunich, one of the largest Mayan sites ever discovered in Belize! During their private tour of the ruins, the Marines were met with spectacular views top the top of the temple and were able to see the bordering town of Melchor de Mencos, Guatemala. The Xunantunich has been continually excavated for more than 100 years, and as recently as 2016, archaeologists discovered a tomb of a Mayan ruler underneath the main temple.
