Please join me next Monday, August 19 for the release of this book Hard Mod Magazine, a self-published tape-bound compilation of photocopies from assorted sources depicting original mod and skinhead style and culture from the 1960’s in the UK. Hard Mod Magazine brings to the forefront the style, motivations and multicultural influences of the original youth culture before it was co-opted and corrupted by later revivals. The original binder and hand-collaged layout the book is photocopied from will be displayed at the launch, along with the exhibition of three paintings, one titled Outside Of Bar Italia which was made to illustrate the cover. The entire book was made by analogue means, with typewriter and Xerox. The cover features a 5 color riso print made directly from separated Xerox copies. Thank you to @endlesseditions for printing the riso covers. I’ll be playing ska and rocksteady hits from that era at the launch so please come on by! Two new publications, the first one pictured is the first time I’m publishing original writing/short stories, which is titled “Second Hand Smoke Outrage or, Pleasure Pt. 2”. First image is a collage on paper that serves as the cover and illustration to the story titled “Tiki Bar Served By Draculas”. 21 stories in total, which have themes like fantasy, status and desire. The second zine is titled “Vaudevillains” which has images of vaudeville performers next to their billing, and features the business card to the Chinese restaurant/tiki bar “Jade Island” in Staten Island on the back cover. “Second Hand Smoke Outrage” has two versions, one is a hand rub transferred color cover, edition of 7 and available for $32. The second is a photocopied black and white cover, edition of 25 for $13. “Vaudvillains” is an edition of 20 and is $6.50. All are available for purchase on my website. The collage measures 11x14in and is toner rub transfer and print collage on paper, and is available for purchase through DM or email.
