Joseph "Pal Joey" Longo's name rings loudest in halls of house, but the Central Islip raised, SUNY Farmingdale educated DJ has never been shy about his hip-hop roots. After coming up making pause tapes, he was present for the recording of many a classic as second engineer at Power Play Studios, went on to produce for the likes of Boogie Down Productions and even claims to have done demos with a young Nas.

This Friday, November 15th, Salon des Amateurs comes alive with the iconic sounds of Pal Joey (www.paljoeymusic.com), the legendary NYC producer who helped shape the sound of New York house.
Joey came up in the heady days of New York street culture, amidst B-boying, boom boxes, and an unusually entrepreneurial spirit of beat-making. Starting with crude “pause tapes,” he soon progressed to making tracks with drum machines and sampled vocals, painstakingly assembled with razors and reel-to-reel tape. From his early days at Vinyl Mania in the mid-1980s—where Larry Levan might be found shopping for records in his pajamas—just around the corner from the iconic Paradise Garage—to his engineering work at Power Play Studios, Joey’s talents helped him break into the city’s emerging house music scene. He soon found himself working with everyone from KRS-One to Sade, The Orb, and Deee-Lite.
Pal Joey has been a cornerstone of the New York house scene, and his productions have left an indelible mark, inspiring generations of DJs and house music lovers around the world.
Joey just released a new album called „HEAR“ which features a perfectly selected blend of classic cuts, new versions, remixes and unreleased wonders. Mastered to perfection, but keeping his raw New York style. https://soundsoftheuniverse.com/product/hear
