In the context of the exhibition AMONG THE INVISIBLE JOINS Works from the Enea Righi Collection and the inclusive partner project JOINING PATTERNS, we hosted a dialogue round with experts in mental and psychological health, asking the question: Which research approaches, new therapeutic methods and perspectives on a society that thinks and acts inclusively can help us to overcome invisible boundaries and understand mental health as a unifying element of being human? Museion Bulletin #10 ➡️“Anyone can be successful!” Martina Drechsel, founder of Patternhouse.org, talks to neuroscientist Saskia Rusche about brain mechanics and creativity Design can play an important role in improving the rehabilitation of people with mental health issues and Patternhouse.org demonstrates this. This innovative research project has been adopted for over five years in the workshops at Casa Basaglia, a psychiatric rehabilitation residential facility in Sinigo (Merano). Thanks to the initiative JOINING PATTERNS: Stitch and leave a mark! at Museion’s Casa Atelier, the workshop is now open to anyone who is interested in experimenting with Patternhouse.org’s shapes and colors. The idea behind the Patternhouse method is based on an easy-to-understand, clearly structured workflow that trains cognitive skills in a relaxed atmosphere. “Anyone, regardless of their manual skills or previous knowledge, can work independently and creatively at their own level, and, above all, with guaranteed success, which is very important for the healing process,” explains Martina Drechsel, founder of Patternhouse.org. Our first JOINED PATTERN cushions, presented by Thomas. The idea behind this project is to create unique pieces by combining the embroidery of the workshop participants with the work crafted by the patients at the psychiatric rehabilitation centre. JOINED PATTERN was launched in June when we started to host embroidery workshops across our region. Most participants had never tried embroidery before but by following the simple steps of our design method everyone was able to create their own beautiful patterns. No skills needed! The results were truly amazing. Patternhouse in collaboration with @museion_bz will host nine workshops 14-30 November where you can explore embroidery as a powerful medium to relax, immerse yourself into arts and craft and where you can connect and have fun. By taking part in our workshops you will also support our work. The finished, joined cushions will be exhibited and sold at the finissage on December 12th. The proceeds will help continue our work for people living with mental health issues.

A big thank you to the students of the Maria-Hueber-Gymnasium for supporting our workshop. We will combine their beautiful embroidery with the creations of the users from our psychiatric rehabilitation center Casa Basaglia, to create JOINED PATTERN cushions.
