Hello, new Instagram friends!
There are lots of new followers, so I wanted to say hello and thank you for following along.
While we have been celebrating @wickedmovie lately, we also like to talk about other things like nature, art, and design (of all genres) and of course, telling stories through clothing!

And now a focus on The Wizard as portrayed beautifully by @jeffgoldblum
As you are hopefully seeing by now, each costume carries a story. While The Wizard's costume is rich in the hues of Emerald City, there are many details I hope you are finding as you watch the film.
One of which is his cravat. The color of the cravat is designed to ombré from black to green into the center to reference the iconic tornado. Not to be missed is the 👁️ pin in the center.
As your eye travels, the fobs that travel through his waistcoat are a sight to behold. Needless to say, a great many artisans worked on The Wizard through Film 1 and Film 2! Even more behind the costume details to come!

@soutarbobby was one of the first of the crew that arrived for the costume production of @wickedmovie. As an Assistant Costume Designer he oversaw a tremendous operation. While he had his hands in just about everything, I am very proud of his work on the entirety of Shiz for which he pushed himself to great lengths and goodness knows how those Wise Women came together in record speed. I appreciate you Bobby so much x, Paul
"As a friend of Dorothy, it was an incredible honor to journey down the yellow brick road, hand in hand with such an amazing team, all led by our wonderful wizard, Paul.
Working on Wicked allowed me to exceed my own expectations and learn so much along the way. I accomplished things I never thought I was capable of while forging new relationships - and strengthening old ones - with so many talented craftspeople. Together, we always strove to push the boundaries and achieve the best work possible.
It wasn’t always easy - a challenge is good, right?! - but I am truly grateful for the opportunity that Paul and Dulcie, our supervisor, gave me when they asked me to join the team. The experience was made all the more special because of the incredible people I shared it with, who consistently gave back more than I could have ever imagined. Their dedication and talent brought Paul’s designs to life in ways that were nothing short of magical." - @soutarbobby

Continuing the idea of spirals, which was a theme throughout @wickedmovie. These beautician costumes began as an inspiration from wind turbines. You could also say inside the pattern inside a hairdryer. 🙂
The fabric is of scuba material, which gives incredible bounce and texture. All painstakingly dyed to match the salon. These have to be some of my favorites!!

Outside of #WickedMovie’s fantastical world, @paultazewell might be the closest we get to a real-life magician. The legendary costume designer, who crafted the looks for @universalpicturesuk new film, has created a timeless world of designs that give a vibrant allure to Oz: they’re captivating, enchanting and, both on-screen and in real life, utterly jaw-dropping.

As promised ....In the first of many BTS from my amazing @wickedmovie team collab posts, I would like to formally introduce you to
@lloydmiddletoncostume He was one of the Assistant Costume Designers on my team.
The role of the Assistant Costume Designer is a hectic job keeping all of the moving parts together (sometimes being the therapist or being the "bad guy"). In this case, for almost 2000 costumes. While the Asst. Designer brings individual talent honed over the years to the table, it is often their own source of magic that makes my job as the lead very seamless...and for that I am forever proud and grateful to have worked with you Lloyd!
Lloyd's is one of the nicest people you'll ever meet, and his story is one many can relate to...making sacrifices to get to his goal for a craft we all love and cherish. I look forward to watching your star rise! ✨
"So grateful for the magical project! I learnt so much from Paul as his assistant designer and am so grateful for the opportunity that he and Dulcie Scott gave me on Wicked. Helping to bring Paul's design vision to life was a dream come true! Getting to work with this team of talented and wonderful people will be something I will treasure forever. So many hard working people went into help create the world of Oz. From our incredible crowd supervisor Sarah Dagnall-Edwards to our fitters, alteration team, design team, buyers, costume props, Milliners, breakdown and textiles artists to our wonderful set crew who worked so hard to make each and every costume looked perfectly Ozian! I am so proud to have got to work with all of you! " - @lloydmiddletoncostume

What an honor to be recognized by Native Son.
For some time I have been following this organization as it so aligns with my values and ideals I hold deeply important. As a Black gay man and as an artist, I am acutely aware of the importance of elevating our shared voices, our lived experiences, and our visibility. I have been able to do this in my craft, proudly. So here I stand with the Class of 2024, and look forward to working with and alongside this incredible group of brothers. x, Paul

In the world of Oz, our color palette allowed us to get into every nuance of GREEN.
But sometimes that world of green gave a wink into blue-green and teals or acid greens and chartreuse. Accents of brown or magenta allow you to rest your eye on the mysterious and magical world of Oz. All of this layered beautifully.
This BTS from @lloydmiddletoncostume shows you all of the details that went into our amazing background actors and dancers.
Hoping you love this post to see all of the details in the tailoring and textures - down to the hosiery and beautiful millinery from Sophie Lambe @reel.millinery.
As mentioned, we are showing this month BTS from my team. There were so many people that went into bringing the emerald city to life. From milliners to shoe makers, costume makers, costume fitters, superhero crowd costume supervisors and standbys and trainees that help bring all these magical costumes to the screen!

Before the press run for Wicked, I sat with @la_chrisj and Brian Isom @blakbuddha9 for a chat about my experience designing Wicked.
During that session we took this beautiful photograph.
It was my first formal time to sit and reflect on the incredible experience.
This photograph art directed by @iveydesign makes me think of my first moments sitting to sketch the costumes that would live in the wonderful magical world of Oz and all of the stories we were about to tell through color, texture, material, beading, embroidery, whimsy and the unexpected.
