🦉Cape Eagle Owl has been spotted near Castle Rock ⚡️🙂 thanks to Di Smiley and friends for sponsoring her. 🙏🏽 ⚡️ ::
Owls feature prominently in the mythology in a lot of cultures.
These mysterious creatures are known far and wide as symbols of wisdom, omens of death, and bringers of prophecy.
Athena the greek goddess of wisdom was often shown with an owl companion.

the Hopi’ people of North America hold the burrowing owl sacred as a symbol of their god of the dead.
The Burrowing Owl, called Ko’ko, was a protector of the underworld, and things that grew in the earth, such as seeds and plants. This species of owl actually nest in the ground, and so was associated with the earth itself.

In many African countries, the owl is associated with sorcery and baneful magic. A large owl hanging around a house is believed to indicate that a powerful shaman lives within. Many people also believe that the owl carries messages back and forth between the shaman and the spirit world.

In some places, nailing an owl to the door of a house was considered a way to keep evil at bay. The tradition actually began in ancient Rome, after owls foretold the deaths of Julius Caesar and several other Emperors. The custom persisted in some areas, including Great Britain, up through the eighteenth century, where an owl nailed to a barn door protected the livestock within from fire or lightning.

The Zuni tribe believed that an owl feather placed in a baby’s crib kept evil spirits away from the infant. Other tribes saw owls as bringers of healing, so a feather could be hung in the doorway of a home to keep illness out. Likewise, in the British Isles, owls were associated with death and negative energy, so feathers can be used to repel those same unpleasant influences.

Thanks to everyone for the incredible show of love and support for this project ! It’s been overwhelming ☺️. Working with light also means acknowledging the dark. this story of Caracal aims to highlight the fact that the majority of premature Caracal deaths in our city is due to being hit by cars . @urbancaracalproject have been documenting these incidents for a number of years now, scroll to see the 7 hotspots that they have identified and where we have been placing our magical glowing Caracal . ⚡️ to contribute towards this work please consider making a small donation as the materials are expensive. ☝🏽link in bio ✨🙏🏽

The Endemic Project :: a site specific immersive installation experience. ‘Turning the cars of commuters into wonder discovery pods’ - for a 6 stretch of dark forest road ‘The endemic project‘ installed reflector creatures that are endemic to the area (occur nowhere else on earth) when you drove your car down the road your headlights lit them up for a brief but dazzling existence.
This was accompanied by a sound track delivered to your car sound system via an app with geotagged sounds that would trigger a soundscape as you drove past specific creatures. Music / sound composition and geotagging by the wizard Simon Kohler.
The project remained installed, unsanctioned, but actively protected by the community for over a year.

The de-abstraction of species extinction. The loss of creatures is built into the project. I want people to feel that loss.
