Take a closer look at our Nutcracker costumes, where every stitch tells a story of artistry and elegance. The Sugar Plum Fairy costume has around 400 hand-sewn Swarovski crystals adorning the tutu and bodice. The Snowflakes, lovingly refurbished each year for reuse, are made from brocade and back onto cotton drill, applique work with velour, nets, organza and of course a myriad of Swarovski crystals. The Sugar Plum Prince’s jacket complements the Sugar Plum Fairy’s tutu and features 200 Swarovski crystals. The jacket is tailored to the male principal dancers. For us, it has been an extraordinary privilege to add a touch of festive charm to a building already so profoundly perfect. The staircase, a marvel of Piastraccia marble, English alabaster balusters, and Brescia marble handrails, carries an inherent majesty that speaks for itself. Our goal was not to overshadow its magnificence but to enhance its timeless elegance with the warmth and magic of the season. The OWO courtyard, stately and iconic, now features a 30ft Norway Spruce mindfully adorned to exude that quintessential British charm—a warm embrace of tradition and nostalgia. Our approach has been one of reverence, infusing this storied setting with the spirit of a quintessentially British Christmas. Through subtle yet thoughtful touches, we’ve aimed to evoke an atmosphere of wonder and celebration while allowing the buildings beauty to remain the true centrepiece. It is both an honour and a responsibility to contribute to a space so rich in history and meaning. Today marks Sir Winston Churchill’s birthday. Pictured are three unique locations within Raffles London at The OWO, where Churchill worked, planned and ultimately succeeded in the Allied Victory in WWII. The Haldane Suite: This was the original name of the suite as Lord Haldane was the first Secretary of State for War to have his office in the Old War Office. When Churchill took up this position from 1919 to 1921, this became his office. The Churchill Suite: This is the room where the army council met and Churchill would have held meetings of state, at that time the suite was called the Army Council Room. ‘The Army Council Room’ was where major decisions relating to the governance of the Army were made (e.g. the formal acknowledgement that ‘shell shock’ was a post traumatic stress disorder). The Balcony of the Grand Staircase: This is where Churchill would make important announcements and speeches to colleagues within the Old War Office.
